Uncharted developer Naughty Dog has revealed that Japanese cult classic ICO is a major influence on its work - including the project it's creating "right now". You know, the one beginning with 'Uncharted' and ending in '3'.
Speaking after Uncharted 2: Among Thieves was voted the greatest PlayStation game of all time by OPM readers, Naughty Dog boss Evan Wells said his own game wouldn't be his pick for No.1.
He instead plumped for ICO and GTA III - reserving special praise for Fumito Ueda's PS2 classic.
"They're pretty different games, but they've both influenced the industry tremendously," said Wells.
Especially at Naughty Dog, it seems, where even now, they're motivated to make an ICO-like title. Wells added:
"[ICO's] the kind of game - that linear, narrative-driven experience - that we're focused on making right now.
"Everyone in the office has been influenced by it greatly; it's just a fantastic game."
Discussing Among Thieves' accolade, Wells commented: "[Story-driven games] are very difficult and costly, but I hope people are now realising how story can really elevate the gaming experience."
ICO's getting a lot of love retrospective love this year - with Lionhead Peter Molyneux crediting it for heavily influencing the third game in his Fable series.
Meanwhile, Sony is readying a twin-pack of remastered ICO and Shadow Of The Colossus for release on PS3 next year. Both games will be HD and playable in 3D.
