Activision 'exploring options' for Bizarre Creations

"Blur did not find a commercial audience"

Activision has responded to reports that it has closed UK studio Bizarre Creations.

Stories earlier suggested that Liverpool-based Bizarre was to be shut down, with the loss of 200 jobs.

Despite admitting that the studio's major new IP, Blur, was a commercial flop, Activision said in a statement that it was "exploring options" over Bizarre - which may include a potential sale.

A statement given to CVG read:

"Over the past three years since our purchase of Bizarre Creations, the fundamentals of the racing genre have changed significantly. Although we made a substantial investment in creating a new IP, Blur, it did not find a commercial audience.

"Bizarre is a very talented team of developers, however, because of the broader economic factors impacting the market, we are exploring our options regarding the future of the studio, including a potential sale of the business."

Down, it appears - but perhaps not quite out.

Bizarre's 007: Blood Stone was released two weeks ago to the day in the US, to a lukewarm critical reception and lacklustre sales.
