NPD: Xbox 360 beats PS3 and Wii in October

Microsoft's system comfortably outpaces its home console rivals

Xbox 360 was the leading home console in the US market in October, according to data from the NPD Group, Microsoft and industry analyst Michael Pachter.

Microsoft's console sold 325,000 units, helping it secure a fifth consecutive month ahead of PS3 and Wii in the States.


In comparison, PS3 moved 250,000 units and Wii 232,000.

Overall, the top selling gaming system was Nintendo's DS, although monthly sales figures weren't disclosed.

On the software front, NBA 2K11 came in at No.1 on the monthly chart, ahead of fellow new releases Fallout: New Vegas and Medal of Honor.
