Sony expects Gran Turismo 5 to be a key driver for PS3 hardware sales in the run up to Christmas.
That's according to Sony UK's head of PR David Wilson, who says the racing sim tops off "one of the strongest years in recent memory".
"2010 has been one of the strongest years in recent memory for quality game releases, and we have culminated the year with the launch of Gran Turismo 5," Wilson told MCV.
"GT5 has been in the making for five years and we believe that it will serve as a true driver of new console purchases. We know it has been a long wait, but we genuinely believe that fans of Gran Turismo will not be disappointed," he added.
"We are confident that Gran Turismo 5 will do great business between launch and Christmas," said Wilson.
GT5's excruciatingly long development time was a sore point for eager fans, but now the game's out Sony funnily touts it as a selling-point. "With five years of development behind it, Gran Turismo 5 will be on top of many gamers' wish lists," Wilson said.
