Microsoft has revealed that around half of the 25 million-plus Xbox Live members are Gold subscribers.
With each of those Gold members paying an annual fee of around £35 / $60, "it's a very large business" for Microsoft and its partners, according to Dennis Durkin, head of the firm's Interactive Entertainment Business.
In the US, Gold subscribers spend more than three hours a day on average using Xbox Live, he also said, according to IGN.
In August, Microsoft raised the price of Xbox Live subscriptions.
The service now generates over $1 billion annually, with digital transactions raking in even more than subscriptions.
