Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter expects combined Kinect and Move sales to reach eight million units this year.
By the end of 2011, the installed base across the two new motion control devices could hit 25 million, he said in a research note.
"Given recent guidance from Microsoft, it is likely that the two peripherals will have an installed base of eight million by year-end, and depending upon pricing, we could see an installed base that approaches 20 - 25 million by year-end 2011.
"Interestingly, the higher priced Kinect controller appears to have overtaken the Move controller in the sales race, with sales about even notwithstanding Move's six week head start in the marketplace," he added.
"Microsoft announced that its Kinect device has sold through 2.5 million units in only 25 days, while Sony announced that its Move controller has shipped over 4.1 million units in its first 10 weeks on the market, implying sell through of around 2.5 million units."
