Cave Story was finally released for WiiWare in the UK on Friday. The platformer made its Wii debut in March in the US but UK gamers have had to wait nine months to download it over here. According to ONM it's been well worth the wait as the mag awarded the game 91% in their Cave Story WiiWare review.
Cave Story is a platformer inspired by classic games such as Metroid and Castlevania. It was developed by a man called Daisuke Amaya (AKA Pixel) for PC in 2004. Nicalis worked with Pixel to bring the game to WiiWare.
As for the plot, Cave Story takes you into a rare world where a curious race of innocent, rabbit-like creatures called Mimiga run free.
You wake up in a dark cave with no memory of who you are, where you came from or why you're in such a place. Uncovering Mimiga Village, you discover that the once-carefree Mimiga are in danger at the hands of a maniacal scientist.
ONM praised the story, controls and music, describing it as "a superbly polished and adapted game."
Summing up, the mag said "it easily holds it own against the Castlevanias and Metroids of the world."
