So we've got an archaeologist who wears a top hat with a red puggaree and has a penchant for solving mysteries with the power of his logical mind. Remind you of anyone? Yes, Konami's Doctor Lautrec And The Forgotten Knights has already been accused of ripping off Professor Layton and now you can see for yourselves by checking out the first 3DS screenshots.
To be fair to Doctor Lautrec, there are some differences. And we're not talking about the fact that his hat is slightly more battered than Layton's.
For starters he has a female assistant rather than an annoying young cockney for a companion. Sophie Coubertin is her name and apparently she's a looker and gets quite a lot of attention from men. However, she shows no interest in them. She met Lautrec while serving as a part time assistant and began working in his research facility.
He also has a pet monkey called Kiki who he carries around on his shoulder.
You'll have full control over Lautrec as he wanders around 19th century Paris attempting to find treasure in caves.
There are also battles to get stuck into. These have you using spirits that come in a variety of forms, including human, beast and bird types. You can give these spirits orders using a circular command pad on the lower screen.
The screenshots below show Lautrec walking about his museum, which is packed with people. Unlike the Layton games, all the dialogue will be spoken aloud.
Doctor Lautrec And The Forgotten Knights will be released for 3DS in Japan on 11 April.
