Konami's first 3D handheld games aren't for 3DS

Pro Baseball Spirits headed to 3D phone handsets in Japan

With Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D and other high profile titles promised, Konami is a major player for 3DS next year, but it's not waiting around for Nintendo to kick off 3D handheld gaming.

The Japanese developer has confirmed it will be shipping Mobile Powerful Pro Baseball 3D - the latest in its long-running Powerful Pro Baseball series - as a pre-installed game on the new 3D Android smartphones releasing in Japan.

It will be joined by a golf game with similar cartoony visuals, Golfriends, which will use the touch screen for control.

Sharp, the technology company behind the Nintendo 3DS screen, is putting the same tech into mobile phones in The Far East. The handsets come equipped with a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, Android 2.2 as an OS, and a 3.8-inch 3D-capable display which has 800 x 480 pixel resolution.

Numerous developers have already jumped in with support, including Capcom, which has committed to bringing Mega Man, Resident Evil and Ghosts 'n Goblins titles as preloaded on the handsets.
