Iwata: 3DS health warnings will protect against lawsuits

CEO insists extended 3D viewing may have negative impact on young kids

Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata has defended the company's decision to warn parents of the potential negative impact of extended 3D viewing by young children.

While some experts have claimed that parents have nothing to worry about, Nintendo chose to issue a warning a few weeks back saying that its new portable's 3D mode shouldn't be used by children aged six years and under.

Iwata told the Japanese edition of the Wall Street Journal (via Andriasang) that the warnings aren't intended to mean that 3DS is dangerous, but that the platform holder wants to give parents adequate information about its products and protect against potential health-related lawsuits.

Of course, 3DS users will also have the ability to switch off the system's 3D mode entirely and play purely in 2D.
