Atari and Cryptic Studios have announced that the free-to-play update to superhero MMORPG Champions Online will launch worldwide on January 25.
It'll enable users to play everything freely with the exception of special Adventure Packs.
Those who still fancy shelling out cash will also be able to purchase gameplay upgrades and additional premium content from the web-based and in-game C-Store, while current players can continue subscribing for $14.99 per month to unlock most extra content and features.
"It's a genuine pleasure to be able to announce our release date for Champions Online: Free for All," said Cryptic CEO John Needham.
"On January 25, 2011, any gamer or would-be superhero can play within the ever-improving world of Champions Online for no cost."
We guess it's an ideal time to launch the game's free-to-play model, what with the subscription-only DC Universe Online hitting store shelves this week.
