Mature 3DS titles get black packaging

Splinter Cell and Street Fighter IV Japanese box art shown off

Nintendo has confirmed it will use black packaging for any games given the CERO C (or 15+) rating in Japan to denote the mature content of the titles.

The system was introduced in Japan last year with the release of Capcom's Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, but it was not introduced in other territories.

The platform holder hasn't confirmed whether it will be introducing a similar system in the West.

Ubisoft's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory 3D has received a CERO C rating in Japan, and you check out its 'mature content' packaging along with Street Fighter IV 3D Edition's normal packaging in the images below.

Jonathan Ross - who has said the 3DS is 'far better' than expected - has also hinted that a Metroid 3DS game is on its way to Nintendo's new handheld.
