Guerrilla Games has promised Killzone fans that the third game in its flagship series will "play much more fluidly" than its predecessor - and reiterated that it has fixed the controller lag seen in KZ2.
In addition, the Amsterdam-based studio has claimed that Killzone 3, which will be playable in 3D throughout, will feature much more diverse environments than fans have seen before.

"[While] we were still tweaking and checking framerate, I checked this game back-to-back with Killzone 2 and have to say that it plays so much more fluidly. Also, the adjustments we made to lean-and-peek - you can actually slide into cover now, vault over, brutally melee your enemies - it feels more fluid, stutters less. There's fewer points of irritation."
He added: "[The] thing with Killzone 2 was there were some quite technical problems in the controls, actually, and I think we've solved those now.
"There was a lot of lag... by fixing those issues we've lost a bit of that weighty feeling. We've tried to maintain that original experience, but if we'd kept it as slow, we'd run into the danger of losing some people, moving too far away from our competitors."
Discussing the game's locations, Guerrilla boss Herman Hulst added: "A big improvement over Killzone 2 is that we're looking to have pretty much a unique setting for each level...
"We're going from the Helghast interpretation of jungle to very Killzone-esque scrapyards, and at the end we go into space. It's a big departure from Killzone 2, where the first five levels were all urban settings."
Killzone 3 will be released exclusively on PS3 on February 22 in the US and the following day in mainland Europe. It will hit the UK on February 25.

Sounds ace. The extra variety in the levels, as well as smoother gameplay should help Killzone 3 stand alongside the greats in the genre.

If anything it was the pacing and almost non-existent story that made Killzone 2 unfun in certain ways. Just felt like we were dropped into random places meant to be exciting, which just ended up feeling like a drag.

Good to hear they're making a go of keeping things fresh, the only standout level for me was when the Helghast boarded the space station. It's definitely sounding promising.

I know what you mean. The game was utterly fantastic looking and breathtaking to play for sure, but games need a little ying and yang, some balance, to be truly great. By the end of the game I was a little fatigued, even though I was still enjoying it. Variety is the spice of life, and I'll be happy if this just runs to locations and not swapping out the game mechanics every five minutes.

I thought the title meant the action was on a lake or something...

As long as "Fluid" translates as "Better"... much better.

Good stuff. The immersion looks great even in the second, from what I saw the clunky story did take you out of that a bit. They've spotted a snag and dealt with it, simple but effective. To be fair though, if they just shot Rico in the face and replaced "Sev" or whatever he's called with a more interesting hero they'd have it nailed.

At a random point half way through Killzone 2, I turned the game off, ejected it, and never played it again. It really was a bore. I felt no compulsion to get any further, nevermind actually completing the game.
On a brighter note though i thought the graphics and visual effects were nice for the most part.
I will probably pass on Killzone 3 unless its radically different to the last one.

As long as they keep the warzone MP games i'll be happy, that really is something the COD games could learn from. The constantly shifting objectives keeps the game fresh and also makes proper use of the vast levels.
Still haven't finished the main game, got back on it last week and i'm now just up to the throne room before you fight Radec (those rocket launcher guys get me every time) but i have to agree that the main game was a bit meh. MP more than makes up for it though.
All i'm really wanting to hear is if the game is better played with Move and if they'll split lobbies for normal pad users if one control scheme gives a big advantage. If anyone who was in the beta knows this could they post it

The beta didn't have Move support, unfortunately. Hopefully, GG will release a new demo that includes Move support, so that we can decide whether it adds anything, or not.
I think I'll probably play the single player game with Move, but use my pad for the multiplayer. I think using Move will add more immersion, but may be too cumbersome for multiplayer matches. We'll have to wait and see, I suppose.

I don't have Move myself yet but this could be the game to swing it for me if it proves to be the best control scheme. But yeah a demo for us non PS+ users would be nice, maybe with a DCU demo as well (but not a 16gb one, that took f**kin ages to download and then i found i couldn't play it cause its linked to the profile it was sent to originally).

it's going to have to be more than 'fluid' to tempt me again, i got KZ2 & took it back the next day, just another generic FPS.

Just another generic troll. Do you post anything positive... ever? Anytime I see your posts you're always bashing something. Is there anything that you do like??

He hasn't got anything to play till September so I'd get used to it.
Only got a month to wait now, I expect a demo in a couple of weeks mind to keep me going.

Peeps can be a little hard on KZ2
Was it a good game? In retrospect the 7 - 8 / 10 in CVG & Edge was about right; the campaign was boring, Helghast generic, controls dire
One the upside I thought MP had promise, the rotating objectives idea was innovative, and the graphics were literally off the page good - a different league to the dayglo colours & cartoon characters of Halo
Halo 3 is my drug of choice when it comes to FPS MP, it's true pinnacle of FPS MP IMO, but credit where credit is due, K2 was decent enough game
Might get it and Move if the game reviews well - now there's an opportunity Sony!
