Nintendo 3DS UK price £230 - HMV

Retailer puts a price on Nintendo's upcoming portable

While Nintendo neglected to name an official suggested retail price for the 3DS this afternoon at its Amsterdam press conference, HMV has suggested it'll cost £229.99.

"From what I've seen so far, basic console price: £229.99," the retailer said on Twitter.

GAME is also listing the product for £229.99, a tenner more than Play.com, according to our eagle-eyed readers.

3DS is set for launch in the UK on March 25, two days ahead of the US, where the system will retail for $249.99.

Well you see, they gotta ship it to us. So they gotta pay for the boat, and the bananas that the boat captain eats, plus a bunch of other really neat stuff.

If someone undercuts to £200 then we'll talk shop but £230 you can shove it. And to think i'd been saving £20 worth of game loyalty points for this. When the US get it for £160 equivalent, this is daylight robbery. I blame the Tories.

$250 is £156 at the moment. Even with VAT etc, how the f''k are we ending up at £229? That's a third of the price more.

So $249 = around £155 but we pay £229 how the hell does that work? Do americans pay tax on that $249?

I've got £130 in HMV gift cards to be used...to find an extra £100 in the next two months hopefully shouldn't be too difficult.

Please, HMV, don't screw us over with this price! Stick to it!

Americans will pay tax on top of the retail price. Hawaii has a sales tax of around 5%, which is the highest out of all states.

249.99 USD = 156.50 GBP (at current exchange rates)

    £156.50 + 20% (VAT) = £187.80

    £229.99 - £187.80 = £42.19!!!!

We pay about £42 for nothing. Absolutely nothing.

    WHAT. THE. HELL.

2.The US price with Tax is closer to £180- 190. In the US tax is applied only on point of purchase.

My sisters in the US at the moment. With postage and hassle, I think £230 is the easier option.

Nintendo consoles do not come down in price easily (except the N64, but that was a different era of Nintendo) that said, this is the most expensive Nintendo hardwarse since the N64.

i think you'll find thats wrong. In California its 8-10 per cent and will be 10 per cent on the 3DS.

    1.Blame Labour for the economy...

My counter agrument to that would be blame the Tories for lack of investment in the 80's and 90s. Labour had to spend money cos the tories gave it all to the rich people. And then recession ... so bad timing really.

Oh the current 'government' are not exactly doing a great job either!

Everyone says blame Labour but do you really think it would have been any different if the tories had been in power since the 05 election. The world has and is suffering recession. Not just us and you can't blame Labour for the worlds problems. Jeez I only put that bit in as a joke aswell!

Now...back on topic, Fact is we're still £40 - £50 screwed above the US with tax. Unfair and unjustified. And we all know what Nintendo are like with official price cuts these days....how many official Wii price cuts has there been?

I agree with what you have just said. it would not be too different. I just get annoyed when people want to blame the Tories, usually its ignorant people. I'm sorry for not detecting your humour.

Amazon.fr price is 249 Euros, which comes out at £210. Including our tax, you get around £230. Nintendo are clearly charging Europe more anyway.

and before the tories in the 80's Labour had screwed the economy forcing Thatcher to say we could only spend what is in our wallets. Not exactly a bad idea. Look at the debt a Labour government have left us in, yet again. They do it every bloody time. As for tories giving all the money to the rich people, are you having a laugh? Ive worked hard for everything I've got.

ahem, anyway, 3DS at £230? Not a chance, I'm out. That is seriously taking the p**s and the retailers are feathering their nests whilst Nintendo give them a free hand by not dishing out a RRP.

i have got games from them a few times & had no problems at all, the guy is also on twitter & facebook, he does answer questions on twitter sometimes to.

at this price you can get a game for basically nothing compared to the normal rrp although it's still a bit to much maybe :?

Was really looking forward to this but with that price I'll have to give a miss. Europe gets it earlier than the Yanks but Nintendo fail to set an example to European retailers and instead let them price what they want. The retailers know there are enough people who will pay that at launch and will get all they can for it. I can see price coming down to £199 by the summer/autumn
