Modern Warfare 3 co-developed by Sledgehammer, Raven - report

Expected out in November, claim 'sources'

Sledgehammer Games is working alongside Infinity Ward on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 according to "people close to the matter".

Modern Warfare 3 Screenshot
This comes as no surprise after job listings for positions at Sledgehammer openly announced the studio's involvement in the "next Call of Duty" game.

According to the LA Times report, the two studios are 'equally sharing' development on the game's single-player campaign, which is expected to be ready for a November release.

This comes after turmoil at Infinity Ward surrounding the shock sacking of its bosses Jason West and Vince Zampella that left a question mark over the studio's capacity to take on the monumental task of developing the next Call of Duty.

Meanwhile, the report claims that Activision has called on further support from a third studio, Raven Software, to work on the online multiplayer portion of the game.

Involving Sledgehammer in development of MW3 has reportedly forced Activision to put the studio's other major project, a Call of Duty spin-off started before the upheaval at Infinity Ward, on hold.

Sounds like they're ill-equiped and need the help of others, they should've waited.

Eh not only that but i read (on CV im near sure) in an interview with Activision that Sledgehammer were making it.

As much as a massive fan of the COD games, its a given MW3 is going to be a complete mess 3 different teams working on it? That tells me Activision are rushing the game out quicker than ever and that it will be out this year no question! :x Disgusting.
There is no way I'm buying it at all, I can't even believe I am saying this but its true. I ain't even going to buy Black Ops map packs either, the way we have been treated is appalling.

Please for the love of god let this COD be the beginning of the end for Activision :)

This is all assuming that the court case goes in Activision's favour. If the court sides with West & Zampalla, which I hope it does, then there won't be Modern Warfare 3 by sledge hammer. :D Then Acti will have to bring on the other title they have waiting in the wings if this was to happen.

Three different studios working on MW3? They'd rather have three separate studios work on the game to guarantee it comes out this side of Christmas and make them a fortune again on the strength of it's name than wait a while and give a single dev the time to finish it properly on their own?

IF this turns out to be true, and to be fair it's probably a big if, I genuinely hope it turns out to be a horrible mess of a game that bombs spectacularly. Greed is an awful thing.

You never know, it may not end up being a complete mess. Battlefield Bad Company 2 is a great multiplayer game, but the single player campaign stinks, albeit I rather liked the characters. I think DICE were ill-equiped to take on single player duties and multiplayer duties. I'll reserve judgement 'til I play it.

There going to rush the f**k out of it because without a CoD in their fiscal report, well... needless to say it would probably be halved. But it don't look good why not let IW take their time and create a well thought game, not right everyone on it get it done for the holiday attitude. I don't really know but can Raven pull of a deep mp experience like we see in CoD :?:

Well, with InfinityWard(original) now moved to Respawn the team is at a tremendous loss, they have managed to fill some positions up again. But some still remain, and thats why Sledgehammer are stepping in.
But effectively, if it is now getting to a stage where if the team cant do it alone, and need help from others -- ever more clear that they have intent on rushing development to meet that god-aweful deadline by Activision.

2011 will not be a year for Call of Duty to be quite honest, okay the brain-dead people will buy the TWO COD's coming out this year, but they're are far better titles worthy of my personal time.
Homefront, Killzone 3, Brink, Ghost Recon Future Soldier, Possibly new Medal of Honor, Battlefield 3, and theres 6 right off the top of my head in terms of shooters.

Goodluck having a good year in a year that is so cram-packed with High quality AAA titles :D

I wish Activision would give Call of Duty a rest, at least for the whole yearly release thing, because all other titles under their name aren't selling well because of the extreme amount of focus on this one franchise. Meanwhile they're other titles may or may not be great games but few know of them because they don't bother to mention to anyone of their existence. For example I had recently come across Singularity, which I am aware was advertised and promoted, to a small degree, but from what I've played so far, only a few hours of the single player, it was really good, reminds me of a combination of Bioshock and Half-Life. In my opinion, Singularity is a superior game to Call of Duty, well I haven't played the multiplayer so I don't know for that yet, but for single-player definitely. I really just hope that Activision lays of Call of Duty for a while soon, after all Black Ops just came out, let it continue to sell and be played before you release a newer updated version. This is one of the problems I have with Apple, which is why I don't buy any of their products.

I was disappointed in the end with Black Ops (I did enjoy the singleplayer), and I sold it. Seeing as the main people from Infinity Ward have left, I don't really care about Call of Duty anymore.

I'll look forward to seeing what Respawn Entertainment come up with.

Why would someone assume it is going to be poor just because 3 teams have been delegated to develop it?

Bizarre logic indeed, it's better surely than one undermanned developer rushing to get it done. I for one hope it's the best one yet for no other reason than to shut all the yawnsome cretins up.

Well if the 3 teams arent in close communication with eachother, then you end up with a final product with 3 levels of varying quality. As the old saying goes, "Too many fingers in the pie"

No Thanks Activision, you can stick it, the COD series is all but dead, its become a cash cow for them and hasn't moved on since COD 4, still one of the best games out there, the rest are poor comparison.

Someone has mentioned the other titles out there this year, but having looked at them all the only one that has caught my eye is Battlefield 3 as the rest are clones of clones.

XBOX 360 is now starting to resemble the last year of XBOX, PS2, PS1 and Sega Megadrive with the same old s**t being rechurned year after year, if we all remember what the 360 was like 5 years ago, and now, you can see it is now starting to die its death, most of the games now are 90% s**t, and most of the game developers are lazy when it comes to QA year after year espeically the big franchises like FIFA, COD etc.

There have been some bold tries like Chromehounds as an example over the years, and that is what we need now, something new.

    Spot on, Sir.

I sold MW2 after a couple of weeks and haven't bothered with any of the others. Lose the added MP gimmicks and return to the (relative) simplicity of MW and I'll consider coming back, but while they just shoehorn in more and more cr4p, I'll steer clear. It's not like there aren't enough decent games on the way. 8)

Pandy that's my point mate, it's all 'ifs' at the moment. It may well turn out terrible but the way in which the troll crowd come straight out saying it's doomed is rather pathetic when not even one iota of actual detail on the game has been released.

Mogs don't pretend you represent the greater good/the majority with your constant bashing of the COD series, if it is simple enough for you to blindly ignore the success of the series opting instead to promote the weak argument that 'people just buy it because it is COD' then fine but stating it as a widely held view is just naive. Not liking the game is your right, millions however appear to still really enjoy it and overzealous and unbalanced castigation of it is beginning to become rather tiresome.

Ninja if you weren't aware COD is multi-platform so where your rant about the 360 'running out of 'ideas' comes from is rather irrelevant, even if it was true.

Nobody is saying "CoD sucks because of the name", they're saying that Activision is destroying it. CoD has HUGE potential, Activision need to give the teams some time to develop it though!
By blindly supporting and deciding that those who dislike that are morons, you're destroying the thing you profess to love. You aren't supporting CoD as a games series, you're just filling Bobby Kotick's bank with cash, and in time, soon probably, CoD will die thanks to him.
    Good job.

Development between 2 studios doesn't worry me as it was pulled off in MOH. The one thing that would concern me with this though is that two studios are creating the singleplayer which could make for a rather disjointed experience. That said best of luck to them in trying to develop a decent game.

I hopped back on CoD 4: Modern Warfare last night and it is still superior to Black Ops online and that came out in 2007! Talk about taking strides backwards. On the FPS front Crysis 2 looks good as does Brink, resistance 3 and Homefront. I have purposely left Duke Nukem off because until I am putting the disk in my PS3 I will not believe anything. It is a shame we will probably not see Respawns game this year but hey if it sticks 2 fingers up at Actvision and CoD then I can wait! RIP CoD and thanks for taking the pi$$ out of us PS3 gamers who have supported the franchise. Oh by the way shove your map packs up your ass as you are not getting my money!

    Haha, smacks of desperation.

They must be really desperate to get the game out the door at their usual time of year if they are pulling in other studios to finish it.

Anyone else see a pattern: The more people who buy COD the less quality the next release is. We are starting to see the quality of these games they release greatly decline, what with all the problems on the PC with MW2 and now the problems with BLOPS on the PS3 it doesn't seem they are learning any lessons either.

Yes because rushing a game out in the last minute with 3 different teams 2 of which haven't made a COD game and are unfamiliar with the game engine is not going to be a total mess

I love how people moan and bitch about the game but in the end they buy it anyway. Those who don't have a job, eg most of the people on here, moan because it eats into their little pocket money stash. When are you people going to realise that COD fans don't give 2 s**ts about what you have to say on the COD franchise.

the last good COD game was MW1, MW2 was way too laggy - though the secial ops part was excellent if you had a friend to play with.
Black ops was the worst in the series, all the bad parts of MW2 - with a terrible single player too (& full of bugs)
the only redeeming feature was the zombies with JFK (hilarious) & the fact I made £10 profit selling on ebay! lol
but I wont be doing this again. Medal of honour did what COD games should be doing, changing & improving like the slide to cover thing.
