Dead Space 2 review - another 9/10 score emerges

The winning review scores for Visceral's horror sequel keep coming

Another Dead Space 2 review has snuck out online - this time IGN going with a 9/10 score.

The US site's opening - calling the horror sequel an "amazing game" in its first sentence - sets the tone for an extremely praiseworthy write-up.

It reports that combat its more "satisfying" than it was in the original game, and that a vast number of rewards and unlocks attract repeat plays. Both factors, says IGN, help make it the "best haunted house attraction ever".

Some areas of the narrative are labeled "flat" and the multiplayer called uninspiring, but overall, Dead Space 2 is branded "an excellent game... well worth your time and money".

IGN's score is the latest in a growing line of praise for Dead Space 2, alongside PSM3's 92% Dead Space 2 review, and OXM's 9/10 Dead Space 2 review.

Edge also ran with a 9/10 score for the game, calling its visual design "nothing short of brilliant".

Cannot effing wait till next Friday. This is almost certainly my most anticipated game of all time. Any idea when your own review will be up guys?

Honestly cannot wait for this! I get home from college at 5 on Friday, but I know I will be STRAIGHT on this. Haven't been this hyped up for a game for a while (since possibly Halo Reach or even Modern Warfare 2), and I thought the first one was under-appreciated by a lot of people. Isaac, make me whole again! :D

ive played this guys and you wont be dissapointed by no means they have stepped it up in every possible way. ive been playing with a good set of headphones on and volume turned high and it has had me literally yelling at the parts that build tension by being quiet for a few mins and then all of a sudden scaring the pants off of ya lol only a few games have managed to do this to me a la Amnesia :The Dark Desent to name one. i really recommend using headphones if ya got them it really adds to it as the sound in this game is top notch.

Good stuff aawells, glad to hear the brilliantly tense atmosphere from the first one has returned. I must say, this is the first game that is really tempting me to pick up a pair of headphones. I've heard nothing but good things from people who used them for the first one. Very, very tempting!

I'm really nervous my order is going to f**k up. I've preordered the 360 collectors edition from HMV but its now been removed from the wesbite, and there are all these rumblings that the company is facing bankruptcy.

I've got it ordered on express delivery, so if it does come hopefully it'll be on Thurs/Fri, I just hope to god nothing goes wrong considering I've got a long weekend booked off...

Wonder if the multiplayer is any good? deal on steam if you buy the first game you get 75% off only costing a fiver for the 2nd one, cracking deal.. might get it if the MP is any good

  10. KryptoKnight on 23 Jan '11 said:

I'll probably go for the Steam deal too since I never got round to finishing the first game :(
Seriously pumped for some more of the same though :D :D

The MP probably won't be a major thing - more akin to AC:brotherhood's MP - i.e Tacked on to give it more "value".

Hey hopefully i'm not correct but sounds to me the multiplayer will be fun but not fully formed.

  12. flash501 on 23 Jan '11 said:

Yeah, I expect the MP to be fun for an hour or two but I can't imagine it'll have any real depth or substance to it.

Seeing as I would've bought this on PC, common sense prevailed last night and into Google I typed "What DRM does Dead Space 2 use?" the most relevant result took me to a thread on Steam where some where mentioning it has THREE LAYERS of DRM. Don't know how true this is, but apparently it has:

1: Online Activation (I don't mind that so much, not so ok for those that don't have the net)

2: Limited activations, something like 5. (I've had games before with that thinking I've installed it on a different computer when all I did was get a new part, GFX card or something, using up an activation when reinstalling)

3: A new version of TAGES, which is a deal breaker for me new version or not as I've trouble with it in the past.

If it has all that then for f**ks sake EA, back to their old tricks again. I hate being dictated to how, when and if I can play a game, so many hoops to jump through. They wonder why piracy is rife, they will never learn. I'll wait and see what it has anyway before buying, but if true then...no, sorry, I'll give it a miss.

I haven't checked the DRM for DS2 on the PC for myself, yet it does not surprise at all if EA is back to its old useless tricks again. It was only on some games (a la DA1 and ME2) where it eased off the DRM. It's the reason why I refused to buy DS1 for the PC upon release. By the time I bought a Xbox 360 the second hand versions of DS1 were cheap as chips, so I went that route. No money for you EA!

This second time around...Hm. Well, I had planned on purchasing DS2 first-hand, but not right away - not until there's a price drop. However, if I find a second-hand version for a good price before then I'll happily snap that up. I'm through caring what happens to publishers and developers who p**s up and down their legitimate customers' backsides. DS2 does look like it's shaping up to be a great game and I look forward to playing it.

P.S. These days it pays to ALWAYS research what sort of DRM, online registration, and limited activations a PC game ships with before purchasing it. Sad but true.

I would say we will see another Dead Space may be in 2014, Anyone?

I'm definitely going to pick this up the day it comes out. I usually wait for the price to go down but I'll make an exception for this.
