Hideo Kojima took to the stage in Tokyo earlier this morning to talk about his excitement over Sony's PSP2, or NGP. But the legendary designer also had something else to show off - a fully working prototype of Metal Gear Solid 4.
Our man witnessed the spectacle first hand, and has just got back to us with his impressions of what he saw.
We'll update this with any video that lands online through the day - and please remember that for now (despite Kojima-san's excitement over cross PS3-NGP play) it's just a tech demo:
The character model of Snake was a real surprise. In all honesty, it might have even looked more polished that the man you know and love from the PS3 version of the game.
From his silver fox hair to the bristles in his 'tache, everything looked fantastic - not to mention his facial expressions (grimacing in the main) which really stood out. Otocon also looked sharp - literally. He was almost 'pointier' than before.
Both of those were fantastic, but it's true that the environments were lacking a little. There were a few patches of detail I remember from the PS3 version that has been omitted.
Overall it was a hugely impressive insight into what NGP can do. You've got to hope that Kojima just releases it regardless (!), but we'll have to wait until E3 2011 to see what his real plans are.
Sony released the full technical specs of NGP earlier this morning. The console boasts a five inch OLED screen that an handle 16 million colours, as well as dual sticks and touchpads on the rear and front.
