Dead Space PSP2 game 'wouldn't be a port' - Visceral

Studio focused on originality for franchise

Dead Space developer Visceral is keen to expand the franchise as widely as possible - including, potentially, onto Sony's PSP2 (NGP) - but not at the expense of quality.

Dead Space is a franchise that's already broken away from its video game bonds with spin-offs in other mediums, but there also appears to be a willingness to bring the franchise to portable devices as well.

When asked if Visceral was interested in bringing the Dead Space series to Sony's PSP2 (NGP) art director Ian Milham said:

"I'm absolutely interested in bringing Dead Space 2 to other platforms in the future, what's key to us though is that we don't do ports. We don't do shabby conversions onto whatever platform it may be.

"When we did Dead Space Extraction it was a quality game that uses and plays to the Wii's strengths, which is the same as the movies and comic books," he said.

"They're not just tie-ins, they do a great job at whatever that particular media does.

"When it comes to the [PSP2] or any other future platforms I'd be into it but I'd want to do something that plays to that platforms strengths rather than just a feeble version of a port."

The focus for Visceral at the moment is, of course on today's Dead Space 2 release. We've had a bit of a snoop around and found some of the cheapest Dead Space 2 prices so that you don't have to.

I would love to see Dead Space 2 (or some variant) on the PSP2

Nice. This means that when people do s**t themselves they'll at least be on a toilet when it happens.

I actually don't think Dead Space would work well on a handheld. It's all about the atmosphere. That's kind of lost on a busy bus etc. Or even just on a little screen.

ya right, what about your ps3 port of wii's DS extraction which just scored 7.5 on IGN, lower score than the wii verison which score 8.6

Maybe it got a lower score on PS3 because theres better games of this genre than there is on Wii. I dont follow the Wii so someone find an expert.

Played it on the wii and it was great. Think it got a lower score because they didn't improve the visuals that much. Just sharper visuals with hd output. Just a port with move stuck on.

Silenthill for the psp used to play it with headphones on in bed and the atmosphere was ace, playing in the dark with a small window into the nightmare.Do hope that a ps3 original deadspace make's it's way to the NGP and not some new thing, most films and books are better than there sequals so no new dead space plz just give me the original on this and it will go where ever I go.

I agree in both points, currently playing DS2 and it needs the immersion... it also needs to be played at night :)

I had a blast of the first two chapters and although it looks more cartoon like than the actual Dead Space games, i enjoyed it. I like the way that your alternative fire is a mere turning of the wrist (I have a Move gun attachment and feel like a G when i fire alternatively) :)

Thanks Bosker :) I had a sort of code with DS 1: only after 12, no lights on, sit close, volume loud, set the brightness properly. Maximum immersion. If something jumps out in front of you - it's RIGHT in front of you, you're surrounded by the dark like Isaac and the screams and stuff are realistically loud. Bliss. DS2 just arrived this morning, yay! Just need the sun to bugger off and I'm set :D
