3DS eShop to launch in May - Iwata

Download store, internet browser and DSiWare transfers not available at launch

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has reportedly confirmed that 3DS users won't be able access the new handheld's download store or internet browser at launch.

During the company's third quarter financial results briefing, he said that 3DS will receive its first firmware update in May.

According to Andriasang, Iwata said the update will add the following functionality: eShop, internet browser, and the ability to transfer currently owned DSiWare games to the 3DS.

The eShop will house Virtual Console, DSiWare and 3DS specific titles when it launches.

Iwata also said that in the future you'll be able to transfer a limited amount of e-Shop purchases from one 3DS to another.
