Homefront PC in 3D

Shooter's PC specific features revealed

Kaos Studios has revealed a number of PC specific features for Homefront, including 3D support.

The studio has also confirmed that Homefront is a Steamworks title on PC.

The developer says it has put additional work in on the PC when it comes to the vehicles. You'll be able to control all vehicles from the 1st person cockpit viewpoint as well as 3rd person.

There are also additional control options for helicopters, to give those players looking for more sim-like controls something to get their teeth round. There are three settings:

  • Ace: Allows for the best maneuverability, but takes the most practice to master.
  • Veteran: Balanced difficulty and maneuverability.
  • Rookie: Pick-up-and-play level of difficulty, least maneuverable.

There's a Practice Mode so you can get to grips with vehicle controls outside the pressures of a live match as well as extra vehicle abilities for co-pilots, such as a Recon function in the Scout chopper. Joystick control is supported for all vehicles.

In terms of other gameplay changes, a Squad Management system has been introduced for PC, with Squad based VOIP. There's also Clan Support, and Kaos will be tracking more post-match statistics on the PC platform. Being a Steam title, Homefront also uses Valve Anti-Cheat.

Multiplayer Match Recording also features and a Dedicated Server Browser Executable will be released to allow you set up your own private servers within two weeks of launch. LAN support will be in there too.

Finally there are standard tweaks such as optimized UI to make it more PC / Mouse friendly, supported SLI / Crossfire configurations for extra performance, and 3D support through NVidia's 3D Vision if you have the appropriate hardware:

NVIDIA 3D Vision Recommended Spec

3D Compatible NVIDIA GeForce 480/570 Series GPU

NVIDIA 3D Vision Kit

3D Vision-Ready Display

Intel Core i7 processor

2 GB RAM

Windows Vista or Windows 7

10GB of free hard drive space

The bog-standard minimum and recommended PC specs were released last week. Have a look if you haven't already.

This game certainly looks good and sounds good.

Does it feature a single player story as well or something? Not heard much about it if it does. All I know is N.Korea invades the US. :?:

I want to buy this just because of the extra work going into the PC version.

More developers need this attention to each platform in general. Each has its strengths, and it's frustrating that the PC and PS3 tend to get poorly optimized ports of the 360 version much of the time.

I WILL buy this just because of the extra work for the PC. After Black Ops wouldn't run properly on my mid to high-end machine, and still won't after all the patches (which mostly just did multiplayer balancing), it's nice to see a dev that cares about making sure that a game is actually playable on all formats that it sell on.

It's nice to see that some effort is being made. That's all that's been lacking of late.

Sounds like a PC port done right - looks like PC gamers can't complain the Homefront devs haven't put in som extras to make use of its extra horsepower. Thumbs up to the devs!
