PlayStation Move to get official PC support

Sony to discuss new Move Server project at GDC

It looks like Sony will detail plans for official PlayStation Move PC support at GDC at the end of the month.

A listing for a presentation by SCEA's lead in the Game Systems team in Developer Support John McCutchan, outlines a new project that will allow hobbyists to meddle with the Move on their PC.

"This talk will bring developers up to speed on developing for the PlayStation Move controller," It says.

"We will cover developing for the new PlayStation Move Sharp Shooter accessory. We will discuss the new Move Server project that will make it possible for academics and hobbyists to develop software using the PlayStation Move controller on their own PCs."

If tech heads around the world can be even half as creative with the Move as they are when they hook up Microsoft's Kinect to a PC then we could be seeing more exciting DIY development.

Wtfbbq, does this mean ..... possible Microsoft/Sony collab?!?!? What next! Duke Nukem Forever?

To anyone who says "no wai Sony r kewl they hate Microsoft" or some such s**t, bear in mind that about 99% of people use Windows. There's going to need to be some collaberation, unless Sony plan to release it only on Linux, which would be very ironic and totally bunk sales-wise.

Are all 3 motion controllers getting pc support!? What madness is this!?

Yes, I hear that Sony forbid the pre-installation of Windows on their VAIO laptops.

Are they going to support this with games, or do they just expect PC gamers to buy this for no reason? To be totally fair, the Move is an HD Wii style system. When was the last time you saw "Crysis ...... - MAXIMUM WAGGLE!"?

PC gamers aren't interested Sony, I'm not at least and don't see much others being interested. Kinect did well because it provided a sandbox of possibilites. What does the Move provide that's new to PC gaming? What does the Move provide that's USEFUL for PC gaming? What does it provide that's even well supported in PC gaming?

    Really odd idea this :|

Hmm I expect this will only be used for home-made experiments, as seen with Kinect. It's pretty inconceivable that commerical PC games are going to support Move.

    completely pointless

Maybe it's just cos of the amount of publicity Kinect gets because people are playing with it on a PC. Whenever someone does something it gets posted up on gaming sites. Free advertising.

Imagine if Sony and Microsoft made a console TOGETHER? Double funding, double support, global support, probably no region locking, top end visuals, the best format's and bits all round, no more fanboy bs, no more "which multi-plat looks better", SO many games encompassing all styles, easier for developers to get the best results. Wow, dreaming is fun.
