Scarlett Johansson eyed for Uncharted movie

Would be perfect for Elena, says director David O. Russell

Scarlett Johansson is the latest to be tipped for the Uncharted movie, currently in production in the hands of director David O. Russell.

Russell, who most recently directed The Fighter starring Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale, says he's hard at work on the Uncharted movie adaptation. "The game is very cinematic; there's no question about it. That's what I'm working on real hard and I'm writing it as we speak and I'm really excited to make it," he told Empire during a recent interview.

"I'd love Mark to be in it, I'd love Bob De Niro to be in it; I love the idea of growing them into a cinematic family; I think that's a really cool idea, but... I guess you'll have to wait until you see the script," added Russell before going on to speak of Elena - the female partner of the game's main protagonist Nathan Drake.

"Ah, Elena. I've cultivated her quite a bit and I think I've added a lot of dimension to her so that's all I'm going to say. I love the woman characters and the more robust they are, the more robust the movie," he said, saying he'd "love" Scarlett Johansson in the role.

"There's a lot of great actors I think might suit. Hopefully, we'll see how it works out with everybody who are being scoped to do that role..."

If you haven't played Uncharted 2 yet, your PS3 is crying inside.

Screw Scarlett Johansson (No Fordhandsfree). Just cast Emily Rose, she's a good actress and she's hot. It really is that simple. Instead of using big name stars, why not create stars instead? The film will likely turn out crap anyway and just because you have A-list actors doesn't guarantee box office success. Anyone seen Righteous Kill? I dont remember that breaking box office records (or even coming remotely close to) or winning any awards despite it having two of the biggest and best actors of all time Roberto De Niro and Al Pacino in it.

This is shaping up to be absolute garbage. They should have made this 2-3 years ago with Nathan Fillion. Marky Mark Wahlberg? There's cheese in my fridge with more charisma.

Yeah let's be honest, his prosthetic penis from Boogie Nights has more chance of giving a decent portrayal of Nathan Drake.

I second Emily Rose. It'd be pretty cool hearing Elena sound the same in the movie as she does in the game. Plus she fits looks wise.

Mark Whalberg would be a terrible Nate though.

I'm just glad they didn't cast Nathan Fillion. A dog turd is a better actor than that guy.

    Made me do a laugh!

But seriously, totally agreed on the whole Emily Rose thing, shame it wont happen though.
Nolan North could also easily be Drake in the movie with a bit of make-up magic, but thats Hollywood for ya...

But the character of Drake is practically based on Fillion.

yep drake is basically the bastard child of sam from quantum leap and Malcolm reynolds from firefly brought up by indiana jones and brenden fraiser in the mummy.

If he's only at the writing stage the film could still be canned especially if he wants a lot of big name stars in it and the studio doesn't want to put up the cash for it. think about the bioshock movie, the Studio read the script but didn't want to stump up the funds because to do it justice would cost too much. I have a feeling that in its current state the uncharted movie would suffer a similar fate.

So replacing some of the big names with lesser known (read: cheaper) actors such as fillion and rose would definately be an option.

I'd rather see Drake played by Jack bloody Black than Wahlberg... :x

I'd would have preferred it if Nathan Drake killed Jack Black at birth. Sorry i've been waiting ages to get that of my chest.

Would it be petty of me to point out the grammatical error in the last sentence of this article?
