Lifetime PES sales approach 70 million

But popular football series can't stop Konami posting a drop in earnings

Konami has revealed that lifetime Pro Evolution Soccer sales have exceeded 68.8 million units globally.

The company made the announcement as part of its financial results for the three quarters ended December 31, 2010.

Compared to the same nine month period a year earlier, sales were down 1.8 percent to 188,308 million yen (£1.4b), while profits dropped 9.5 percent to 9,615 million yen (£72.6m).

The company sold 18.49 million games in the nine months, with a fairly even split between Japan, Europe and the US. 6.56 million of them were football titles, while Metal Gear games moved 1.68 million copies.
