'Class3' will be developed by Undead Labs

Undead Labs has partnered with Microsoft to create an open world zombie-survival game for Xbox Live Arcade, codenamed 'Class3'.

Undead Labs was founded by ArenaNet founder and former NCsoft president of product development Jeff Strain with a mission statement pledging to "take online gaming in bold new directions".

"Our mission is to create original online games that truly feel at home on the console platform, and Xbox 360 is a fantastic platform for online console gaming," said Strain.

"We plan to create an ambitious open world XBLA game and use its gameplay, setting, and technology as the foundation for a full online world game."

Class3 will allow players to choose where they want to make their stand against the zombie horde. They will be able to design and fortify their settlements, perform raids for food and ammo, as well as rescue other playable survivors. The game develops in real-time and is influenced by player actions.

Xbox Live Arcade generated record revenues in 2010, according to a new report by Forecasting and Analyzing Digital Entertainment.

That sounds excellent! Except for the 360 exclusive bit.

I can't afford to game anymore.

Oh man, this had better be good, but I'm afraid something as ambitious as this sounds could be a bit restricted as an xbla title.

Also sounds like they've got one eye on the success of the Walking Dead TV show. Which, incidentally, I thought started out quite well and then tailed off towards the end. Too much Frank Darabont in the final episodes and not enough Robert Kirkman.

    Sounds interesting.

I've had more fun with XBL games than retail on my 360 and PS3 (Platinum not included!). They cut out the fluff and s**t like story and go straight for the gameplay!

Have to agree. Really ambitious sounding and I'm surprised they didn't try for a proper disc release.

Does sound very exciting, especially choosing your place to defend and going out and fortifying it. More games need stuff like that. Imagine if in Fallout you could start your own settlement in the same way, by fortifying it and then searching for people to join you. I hope they can pull it off.

    Even Left 4 Dead?

Even Zombie mod for Counter-Strike Source? Oh that was amazing! Hiding in a corner behind a sofa hoping the zombies don't check that room.

Am I the only one that thinks some of the press release(s) are a little mis-leading?, I thought that the XBLA game was going to be an MMO, however, if you read that 1UP piece it states that the XBLA game is actually going to be a single player game that they will use (and gain feedback on) to produce the MMO in the future.

It seems like a good concept but pulling something like that off and making it good can be really tough.
