Battlefield 3 needs to be "a better shooter" in order to dethrone Call of Duty from its FPS throne, says EA senior gamplay designer Alan Kertz.
Speaking to fans via Twitter, Kertz wrote: "You don't kill COD by trying to be COD. You kill COD by making a better shooter."

"BF3 will be deeper than BF2," he wrote. "That said we've paid a lot of attention to keeping depth while pacing the learning curve.
"BF3 is the sequel to BF2. It's not BC3. No, grappling hook and zipline are not in the plan."
EA revealed this week that Battlefield 3 will be released in the autumn, via the first trailer for the game.
Subsequent retail listings leaked a whole load more information about the game, including the fact it will feature battles in Paris, Tehran and New York.

I liked Battlefield 2: Modern Combat the most out of the ones I've played... I also think that COD and Battefield are like two sides of a coin, they both have their good points Battlefield Bad Company = Destruction, while Call of Duty has its fast paced action Michael Bay style action. So in repect they have already beaten CoD but it "killing" is too far....

Please dont try & become a COD better?... the reason we all love Battlefield is because it nothing like COD!...
What I mean is its a good game.

Too right, Don't you DARE become that piece of crap. But don't kill it, I don't want all the CoD noobs on Battlefield.
Then again, alot of us are chuckling about how you can tell a COD player is in BC2 for instance. Easy kills.... ahem. Come on in!

Each new CoD out does the last by copy/pasting though ....

Wow. You get the feeling EA would introduce single player campaigns, kill-streaks and bloody screens (so real) into Fifa if it meant beating Call of Duty.
In fact, they’re starting to sound a little unhinged at times. As much as I love Battlefield; it’s not going to touch Call of Duty sales wise because it’s not the right game for the casuals market.
The moment Battlefield starts shifting 20m copies because Simple-Johnny Consumer buys it is the day it has become so dumbed down that it’s not Battlefield anymore.

Do not make a camp fest.
1) Do away with KDR on the stat-boards and only have win/loss and accuracy. This will make them sad people that look out for themselves instead of the team in a team based game change the way they play, selfish idiots. It's all about the win for me, my stats will not get me a new bank loan or an extra cheese slice at Burger King so who give a f**k.
2) Smaller maps needs to need implemented, make up close and personal combat the norm.
3) Up the pace of the game somewhat.
4) BFBC is like CoD B.O in the sense it takes to many bullets to down a man. Make it more realistic like 2 or 3 bullets not a whole clip because thats just stupid.
5) Just make the game fun and glitch free and you have a winner EA-DIce and a buyer here.

I agree with this. People who don't play for the team should be made an example of. At the end of every game it should tell you who wasn't pulling their weight - then the weakest team-player from the previous game has to play the next match in a hi-visibility jacket.

Don't get your hopes up Call Of Duty haters, it's gonna be just like COD, but with tanks.

I disagree with all of that, Battlefield 2 is still one of my favourite FPS of all time, miles ahead of any COD anyway and the huge maps were what made it so awesome, especially since I enjoyed playing the Sniper class. The pace was plenty fast enough, especially with all the vehicles involved. And that last point is just redundant cause we're not talking about the next BFBC installment.
Pretty diappointed by the lack of zipline and grappling hook though, I believe they were introduced in Special forces and I actually enjoyed them. Not really neccessary for the new game but it was still a bit of fun. I don't see why that would mean no warlord or karkand, I thought they were both in the original BF2?
I cannot wait for this game, I've been waiting for it for years XD

Agreed on 1 & 5 but disagree with 2, 3 & 4.
After 30+ hrs playtime I've not noticed any bugs in BFBC2 multiplayer besides the odd floating crate but I understand others have so obviously making BF3 bug free is essential.
If anyone wants to know how CoD plays in a BF game then buy the BFBC2 Vietnam expansion, it sucks.
I'll add another though.
6) Dont let opposition into the homebase spawns. Base raping is the absolute worst thing in BFBC2.

You...EA and DICE will not kill COD any way you try, you can only dream to make a better shooter
I bought BBC2 and played for 2 hours and thought what is this the game that supposed to "own" COD? HAHA!
Its sooooooo slow n boring! It sat collecting dust for a few weeks then it was traded, thankyou no love goodnight!

Not noticed any bugs? You are one lucky dude. I have a few more hours on this than you (errr... about 800...) but man, there was whole weeks where I didn't have all my unlocked stuff, recently its started not being able to find games, in the kill cam bit the enemies don't have hand guns half the time, I've been stuck inside scenery, shooting people who don't die. knifing people, getting the 'stuck' sound and then they don't die (repeatedly).
Buggy as hell.. still love it to bits though...
TheLastDodo on 7 Feb '11 said:
You're right I have been lucky then lol. I have been affected by the stat tracking "issue" since I bought Vietnam. So yeah DICE you do have a few things to fix for BF3.

no, the KD is good, not that i pay much notice to it but its nice to see it improve over time.
no, its not CoD, the maps should be huge, like BF2 and not the tiny ones from BC2
no, play CoD or BC2, BF2 was never about fast pace apart from some choke points.
1 shot to the head kills, if you spray bullets its less effective, again a CoD( well MW anyway ) thing where spraying bullets works
agree with this
Nah Warlord is Special Forces only, and my fav map with ziplines etc, grrr
I cant wait either, also been waiting years for this.BF2 is the only game i have ever racked up 2000+ hours on.
