Sony NGP - or PSP2, as we used to call it - is expected to get its European premiere at Gamescom in August.
Respected UK trade publication MCV reports that the console is likely to have a "major presence" at the show, which takes place at Cologne's Kolnmesse between August 17 and August 21.
The smart money is on Sony announcing European release plans for the device. The platform holder has already confirmed that NGP will launch in "at least one territory" in calendar 2011.
"There will be numerous innovations in the mobile games console sector this year," said Olaf Wolters, CEO at Gamescom partners the BUI, the German Trade Association of Interactive Entertainment Software.
"After the PSP successor 'Next Generation Portable' has been advertised, we are of course curious to find out when and where the device will be presented to the public for the first time."
Sony has routinely used the annual German trade shows to announce major details of both hardware and software. Last year, it showed off Resistance 3 and a new Ratchet & Clank at the event, whilst it previously used the show to unveil PS3 Slim.
