Bizarre Creations design lead joins Sumo Digital

Gareth Wilson to head up Outrun, All-Stars Racing dev

Former Bizarre Creations design manager Gareth Wilson has joined UK studio Sumo Digital following the closure of the PGR dev, CVG can reveal.

Wilson, who worked as a lead designer on both the Project Gotham series and Blur, will now act as chief games designer at the Sheffield developer.

Sumo's past projects include Sega All-Stars Racing, Outrun Online Arcade, F1 2009 Wii and curiously, the PSP version of Blur rival Split/Second: High Voltage.

Wilson's the first senior Bizarre Creations employee to have his future publicly confirmed. Bizarre sadly shut it doors on Friday after 17 years making games.

He's a very talented man. Good luck, Gareth.

He will make the already good sumo really shine. Please make a Daytona online remake for Sega that would be kool.

Gareth Wilson once ruined the surface of a leather desk of mine by leaving a sticky glass without a coaster. Does that constitute a claim to fame I wonder?

It's good he's got a job, but it makes me a bit sad because this is a blow to the idea that the team aka Bizarre had something else going on behind the scenes - i.e. reforming under MS.

Just bought PGR 4 for £6.85p from Shopto for old times sake and still smashing it up online with Blur. Both great games. Activision are idiots for canning this studio. Their loss another publishers gain.

Good luck to him. As much as I would have liked to see the Bizarre team resurface wholesale like altitude2k, in all honestly this is probably the best place for Gareth. Fits just like a driving glove!
