A new job ad for a YouTube software engineer suggests the company is looking to expand its video content distribution presence on game consoles.
Youtube videos are currently available through a specially designed YouTube website on the PS3 and Wii web browsers.
But the new job post, which was spotted by Gamasutra, says the company is looking for an engineer to "build the next generation game-console-based TV experience with You Tube video content" and "integrate and optimise with distribution channels and devices including all major game platforms".
The service will eventually deliver a "compelling lean back experience" that may include pay-per-view and ad-supported models.

Nintendo said this month that it's in competition with entertainment services like YouTube as well as traditional games companies like Sony.

Good to hear. The PS3 site is so slow, I haven't bothered with it since September.

This would be more than welcome. Fingers crossed! As mentioned above, PS3 YouTube isn't great in its current guise!

Yay! Even more stupid COD multiplayer 'montages' spamming up the website!

wasn't there suppose to be a big firmware for the PS3 web browser ? the PS3 browser seems to be getting worse and worse with each month.
I remember in 2009 the PS3 browser was actually usable but now its a joke. keeps freezing, broken searchbar and crashes on sites like youtube.
hell we cant even check our hotmail from it.

Why would you want to check your email on a console..?
Anyway i think this would be cool, i hate having to downloaad the videos then stream\usb them on my ps3.

because its more convenient then just using it on my PC. besides I surf the web regularly on the PS3 anyway so it would be nice if I could do everything in 1 console im using.

A friend of mine has it on his Wii - WiiMC I think it's called. Works really well too, has it's own search field, then lists the results and the videos stream fullscreen flawlessly on his HD TV. Even in 480p the video quality is pretty sharp.
