An anonymous source has told Everything HQ that Sony is 'already deep in development' of a new PS3 SKU that isn't susceptible to recent system security exploits.
The hack-proof model is said to be a slim PS3 boasting a 300GB hard drive. The report claims it will cost £186.99.

The launch timing of the new model has reportedly not been decided yet, as Sony awaits the conclusion of its legal battle with PS3 hacker George Hotz.

One good thing to come of the hacking situation then?
Good news for me, thanks George

Good way to promote a rush sale on older models. Anyone who has any inclination on hacking the machine will be rushing out to snap them up, just like those who go looking for the earlier PSP models.
WHERESMYMONKEY on 22 Feb '11 said:
They should really do what Nintendo have done with the wii. Not change anything outwardly and not tell anyone about the revisions. Then there will be no way of knowing whether the new hardware revsion is hackable untill someone tries and fails.
Put simply if sony really wanted to beat these guys they'd make sure that knowledge of it was kept quiet.

It will never happen. The hackers will ALWAYS find a way of navigating security systems. Saying its unhackable just brings them out in force to be the first.

Claiming it's Hack-Proof is just basically setting a challenge to the hackers.

What they probably mean by hack-proof is those that are smart enough will find a way, but normal people that just try to put a firmware off a usb or something won't get it to work. I call bull though, it's been proven there's always somebody out there that can hack into anything.... except my mums pies, hard as bloody rock i tell ya.

Slick Loose just said all that needs said. Hackers are probably busting to get at this now. f**k sake Sony, just write them an invitation next time.

So they release a new model thats 'Hack proof' at £190 yet reduce the machines that can be hacked to a cheaper price?
Is it just me or does that logic not seem right?
they release a new machine... but make the machine thats hackable, more accessible?
budobear on 22 Feb '11 said:
The hackers told them what the issue was though, by telling Sony what it was they must have provided them with the information to 'shut that door'. I'm sure I read that if they change the internal workings (and put better security in place) it'll be sealed up tight again.
Given enough time they might be able to get in but by that time we'll be looking at the next gen (I only say this as its taken them 5 years to break in the first time)
fps_d0minat0r on 22 Feb '11 said:
the price drop is nothing to do with hackers.
even if there were no hackers, the price drop would still have come to increase the userbase and sell more software.
I dont think anyone would mind a top of the range games console with blu-ray for £190. let sony's domination begin!

Since the Slim was released, the old Phat models have had problems with Sony's updates. I hope this doesn't prove to be the case with the Slim models out now.

I don't think Sony are saying anything of the like, this story is from an "anonymous source". Sony are obviously going to try and close the exploits found in the current hardware, but I think the "hack proof" statement is a bit of CVG spin.

ricflair on 22 Feb '11 said:
I'm not sure about this, they've dropped the prices, but only to sub £200 on the 160GB models. Cheapest for a 320GB was £230 inc LBP2, so £200 basically. But while at the same time, you've been able to get 250GB 360s for £159.99, I think retailers have just been falling over themselves since Tesco cut the price of everything.
The same website this comes from also say there are negotiations for RE6 to be a timed PS3 exclusive!
I don't know the practicalities of having two consoles that authenticate things differently and whether that is possible etc.
300GB is a bit of an odd HDD size and £186.99 is definitely an odd price point!
And this everythinghq website seems to have been running since 20th Feb and this was the first story they posted. Is this even a source for a decent source???

It's like a President saying he can't be assasinated, only there's a lot more dedicated candidates with online stuff. As soon as you say that something can't be done, people look for a way to prove it wrong. Not me, others. It's an open invitation to the dedicated headcases out there.
I have no idea what the hell you were saying about MS. They're a huge dumb corporation too, I'm not in any fanclubs. This is to do with Sony. Keep it that way plox.
El Mag on 22 Feb '11 said:
Like somebody's already pointed out this hasn't officially come from Sony so why blame them?. It's a pretty obvious conclusion with everything that's recently happened, so somebody's made a story from 'an inside source' and ran with it. The source could be his mate crazy Dave from the pub for all we know.
I'll take that 360 game playing PS3 though, it'll help my wait until that vinyl record playing, 100 billion gb hdd, with a free Mr T bouncer that stands next to it so you can't hack it comes out.... oh sorry i forgot the word that makes all this true - report.

It is of course entirely possible that they said nothing of the sort and this is all just speculation. Most people here, myself included, are reacting purely based on the concept if/were it to go ahead. Even if it's total bs, Sony would be daft to do it.

I *think* the reason the Jap PS3's last longer is they may be allowed to use lead in the solder, where as over here there is EU regulation that bans it, though it is only dangerous at manufacture point. As lead is the best conductive, without it it can cause the thing to overheat and you get the YlOd when the either the GPU or CPU (or both in my case) solder cracks. When you get it reflowed they usually apply stuff with lead in.
. But the Slim froze up and had to be reset after about 30 seconds of operation, if that! So now Im backing up to h'd and trying a restore. Slim doesnt have a master on off at the back either. Still, apparently the old 60gb BC use 180w and the slims use 60w so the bills should go down.
Just swapped by 60gb BC to a slim last night and moved eveything over. It didnt format the 60 after transfer either
Now the 60 is gathering dust until I decide whether to sell it or lend it out

How ironic that the usual Sony fans were whimpering about Geohotz spoiling their multiplayer games yesterday but today they welcome a new SKU.
The funny thing is that a new model isn't going to stop the existing hackers from spoiling everyone's games anyway.....or do the uneducated think that a new model will suddenly stop the cheating retards in MW2 etc?
The damage has been done, a new SKU isn't suddenly going to stop the existing problems.
