Microsoft improves XBL Marketplace, sends out free points

Spend your 80 points before March 2

Have you recently received a message telling you some Xbox Live Marketplace services aren't available?

It happened to us the other day when we were trying to access Sky Player to watch the Champions League.

Apparently, the service outages were a result of Microsoft tweaking the Marketplace experience. The good news is that you might be getting some free points out of it.

Xbox Live users have told CVG that the platform holder has sent round a message saying it has "enhanced Game Marketplace to make finding games and content easier".

Attached to the message is a token for 80 Microsoft Points to test out the service. But the points expire on March 2, so spend them quickly.

While 80 Points won't buy you an Xbox Live Arcade title, it might be enough for an Indie game, Avatar item or a picture pack. Not a bad deal.

Single mum Dawn Matthews hit out at Microsoft earlier this month after her 11-year-old son spent over £1,000 downloading content from Xbox Live using her debit card.
