The Nintendo 3DS has enjoyed a successful launch in Japan today, despite thin stock supply.
According to Reuters, gamers lined up at the Bic Camera electronics store in Yurakucho, Tokyo - even though initial 3DS stocks sold out in a single day of pre-orders on January 20.

"I have been away from playing games for a while, but 3DS brought me back to it," said Hitoshi Yanagi, a 39-year-old from Kawasaki in the suburbs of Tokyo.
"What smartphones can do is different from what the 3DS can do - it's not that either one is superior."
The Nintendo 3S has launched for 25,000 yen ($305) in Japan, with a launch line-up that includes Winning Eleven (PES) 3DS, Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition, Nintendogs + Cats, Ridge Racer 3D, Combat of Giants: Dinosaurs 3D, Samurai Warriors: Chronicles, Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle and Bust-a-Move Universe.
It will hit Europe on March 25 and the US two days later.

Wow. If stock was short in Japan, I don't hold out much hope on getting one on release date over here. I pre-ordered mine on Feb 2nd from shopto, so I'll be pretty annoyed if Nintendo dont send enough to the U.K for the people who pre-ordered well in advance.
They did this with the Wii, and Wii fit. I swear they do it on purpose...

Although this 3DS does look amazing, also it will sell incredible. i'm actually more excited for the temporarily Stupidily named NGP. It seems like it will cater more for core players and there alot of really good developers saying good things about it.

Nintendo are choosing to hold back some titles instead of release them for launch, i think that doesn't sound good as that might mean there may not be many quality titles in it's entire lifespan.
Don't give us console ports more unless they have more added to them, i don't like the excuse of it being for newer players to experience the game. they can just add more stuff

You do remember that there wasn't much at the DS's launch and that went on to have hundreds of must have games over its long life.

I'll be getting one in June from America - can't wait to get into some Ridge Racer, but I know that getting a US one will pay off in the long run when NIS and Atlus get behind it. Just hoping for English Tales of the Abyss 3D and I'm all set!

This has been known for a while now..........so get over it, at least we will have those games eventually.

Looking forward to the AR stuff more than any actual launch games, I have to admit.

I personally can't wait for Mario Kart in 3D.

Eh, I'll buy it, but I'm not expecting it to rock my world. Apart from anything else it seems to be the spiritual successor of MKDS rather than any of the home console versions, and I felt that MKDS was a bit soulless myself.
