Homefront is THQ's most pre-ordered title

Developer's future is still uncertain though

Kaos Studios' exciting new first-person shooter Homefront is off to a good start thanks to record pre-order numbers for publisher THQ.

According to THQ core games boss Danny Bilson, around 200,000 US punters have signed up for battle ahead of the game's March 15 release date.

Earlier this year, staff at New York-based Homefront developer Kaos expressed concerns that they may be forced to relocate to the THQ's new Montreal site or even lose their jobs.

While Bilson hasn't confirmed whether this is going to happen, he has said that it's a possibility that ultimately hinges on the game's overall performance.

"Y'know, I think that the power of the guys in that studio who really built this game - I really have tremendous respect for them," said Bilson.

"I tell them the more successful a game is, the better the economics are for the franchise, and that will help to influence what we do. So we haven't made any decisions at the moment. That's the truth. We're going to look at how it goes. We don't want to relocate people just to relocate people."

Despite the uncertainty, Bilson went on to express his respect and admiration for the Homefront team.

"I love those guys. I've worked very closely with them on this game for years. There's nothing disrespectful going on at all. We're trying to do what's best for everyone," he added.

US customers who order Homefront between now and March 14 can receive a free OnLive console.

Finished KZ3 last night and what an awesome ride, while it lasted! Really looking forward to Homefront and may bypass bulletstorm and wait a week.

Good news for Kaos Studios and THQ. I'm pleased on their behalf - in particular on Kaos Studios' behalf. I may pick up Homefront further down the line; likely the Xbox 360 version so I can trade it back in if need be (unless the PC version has a massive discount deal taking place by then). For the month of March I'm anticipating Dragon Age 2 and Total War: Shogun 2. :D
