Ubisoft's released a statement following the recent controversy (or is that hilarity?) over We Dare, and the news that the PS3 and Wii "sexy, quirky, party game" has been granted a TWELVE rating.
The game, which has you, a partner, and if you so choose, a neighbourly couple, participating in such games as Wii Remote spanking, will carry PEGI 12 in Europe thanks to its "obvious sexual innuendo, explicit sexual descriptions or images and sexual posturing."

A spokesperson said: "We Dare is intended for a mature audience and Ubisoft created its marketing campaign accordingly. The PEGI ratings system is decided upon by a pan-European body and the rating for this game was bestowed by the independent PEGI board.
"Ubisoft has added a 'Parental Discretion Advised' sticker to the game in order to ensure that parents are informed of the potential sensitive nature of the game content," the publisher said.
So the buck's been shifted to ratings body PEGI then, which said it only looks at in-game content when judging a title - not the surrounding advertising.
It said: "Since PEGI is a Pan European system, the questionnaire is designed to meet varying cultural standards in all the member states. So for example, mild violence may not be a very shocking element in your country, but the swearwords in some games may be.
"PEGI does not take into account the context of a game when rating it, we only look at the contents of the game. [We Dare] has been rated as a PEGI 12 because it contains mild swearing, minor assault on a human-like character and words/activities that amount to obvious sexual innuendo, explicit sexual descriptions or images and sexual posturing."
Minor assault? We can only guess that relates to the spanking, unless there's an unlockable "Hardcore" mode carrying a different meaning than what we're used to in games.
Just so you've been warned then: even though it's got a 12 on the box, don't buy this for your kids at Christmas. It could be awkward.

Is there a single player mode?
If not you can just sit on your arm and hold the remote in your left hand so it feels like you're playing it with someone else.

I think what happened is PEGI looked at the actual graphics in game & because they are generally of a cutesy nature like when they play the spanking game the players character is flying through rings nights style they did not actually look at the way the game was played, if they had done that the rating may better reflect the games content.
And the Jedward's mum joke was plain cruel.......f'n funny probably true but cruel all the same

to me, all this does is reveal a flaw in the PEGI system; it doesnt account for this style of game (this is the first of its kind, realistically, in that i dont need to buy an x rated peripheral to go with it) but they clearly need to revise their guidelines.
Interactive entertainment isnt the same as film; its no longer just about the content, but always what the content asks of you. For a game where the trailer depicts couples getting naked together, i hardly think a 12 rating is high enough. unless of course PEGI think its entirely ok for kids to get naked together....
see, they need revising.

I Like the way that most of the media coverage of this is outraged & directed at the Wii just because it is perceived as a kiddy console there are plenty of adults who play the Wii as well.
Nobody is making a fuss specifically about the PS3 version they must believe that children do not have access to or own PS3's.
I think releasing this game on a console like Wii that is largely perceived as a kids console is misguided on Ubi's part though.
On a side note on the PS3 version extra caution should be advised especially on the game where the controller is dangled between two people & they mimmck eating a dangling apple, after all you do not want your girlfriend biting your ball off by accident
