Modern Warfare 3 announcement coming next month - report

UK magazine PSM3 points to mid-April reveal

The first snippet of Modern Warfare 3 gameplay may be with us next month, according to respected UK PlayStation magazine PSM3.

According to the publication's latest issue, insider rumours say "the next in Activision's megaton FPS series will be announced in mid-April". No specific date is given.

The prediction would fit snugly with Activision's CoD: Black Ops reveal from 2010, which snuck out on April 30 - as the publisher lifted the lid on the game's official website.

Rumours from Official PlayStation Magazine UK suggest that Modern Warfare 3 may contain at least some sections linking back to the past of popular character Ghost.

PSM3 adds: "Based on the ending of MW2, we'd be surprised if the story doesn't pick up with Soap and Price on the run, after they were set up by General Shepherd."

The game's sure to have some stiff competition if it comes out towards the end of the year as expected - not least from EA's Battlefield 3.

Swedish creator DICE suggested last month that its competitors in the FPS space had been "treading water" with recent releases.

Meanwhile, the May 2011 issue of PSM3 contains an exclusive, lengthy first look at Saints Row: The Third and an amazing 22-page shooter special.

PSM3 is with subs today and will be in stores on Thursday. Buy it and have it delivered to your door.

Bit strange that a PS3 magazine would be the place to have a reveal like this, would have thought it would have came from a 360 one?

Still, roll on the spectactle that is COD: MW :D .

Oh well, keep the gravy train rolling. I'll keep my eyes on it but didn't bother with BLOPS so doubt I will with this either.

Probably to get back in their good books after all the problems with Black Ops?!

Well considering MW2 was even across the platforms (I heard is was PS3 lead? ) we should get the same again. That's if IW aren't corrupted by the way they have no choice but to make the 360 version shine as checks have been exchanged and jobs will be on the line if they don't do the dirty deed of sabotage. It's just hard to believe that wasn't the case with 3arc and Blops as they managed a much better job on WaW with less experience.

I hope it will still feel like an IW game.

You really didn't miss much. It is certainly the last COD I'm ever going to buy,

Just torrent it - don't continue supporting this abysmal franchise.

Never going to happen. Modern Warfare has never had co-op campaign. And now we've seen Treyarch's Call of Duty drop co-op campaign, I think this game mode is all but dead with this franchise.

Don't get me wrong, I'm on your side with this argument. I refuse to buy a first person shooter that doesn't have co-op campaign now. So you can imagine, I just don't buy shooters any more, although this is my favourite gaming genre. For me this is the most fun, most friendly way of playing a shooter. Sadly it's also the least common feature to appear in first-person shooters now. Fingers crossed for the arrival of Rainbow Six (one day!) or Aliens: Colonial Marines (assuming this game actually exists!) for some co-op fun. Beyond that we can expect many future games to announce the feature, only to drop it once the game gets close to it's release date.

quite excited to see where there going to take this game, i.e story/location/weapons/era.

Lets hope it rights the wrongs of MW2 and is a genre defining game like COD4

surely they must of nailed it by the 8th installment in the series, you would think!

I genuinely hope they redo the rank system, im sick of 'prestiging' and all that crap, used to love it back in the day when there was no ranking like in COD1 online and you just played for fun, rather than to grind up the levelling system.

What's so bad about call of duty? I've been enjoying it since the the beginning. And with each releases, it keeps getting better. Yes, it's on the same engine, but still, it's fun. Listening to a bunch of you, there's no good games available anymore, crysis 2, beurrrrkkkk "this game sucks" gfx are blurred, fukin s**t*y console port! homefront, what a pi*ce of cr*p! nothing good in there... so, what's worth playing these days? nothing i guess. your all Battlefield 3 FTW" i cannot wait when it's released to hear the same bunch of cryers "fu*kin pos, plays like call of duty!! it's crap, I returned my copy in exchange for diablo 3!!

I am sort of looking forward to MW3 as in my eyes IW has been the superior studio and MW2 plays smoother and faster than BLOPS. Why I am only sort of looking forward to it is there seems to be a lot of chiefs involved in this one and how much true talent have IW lost to respawn is the true question and how will this affect the game? Lets hope that One Man Army is gone and they do the right thing and get rid of the noob tubes completely, does the game benefit from them being in there?

WTF, thought Blops only came out four months ago! :?

To be honest, I much prefer the model adopted by games like MAG whereby the game is continuously updated as opposed to the "milk em for all we can, as often as we can" philosophy adopted by the COD devs...

I think they need to hurry up and release details on Modern Warfare 3. Hopefully we get a trailer and this game is TONS better than the crap they put out called Black Ops. I read this interesting article on a Modern Warfare 3 fan site http://mwarfare3.com/ and they were talking about if MW3 can remain the top FPS. I think it's possible, I always enjoyed the Modern Warfare 3 titles as they seem to have better gameplay as compared to the "Call of Duty" titles. The franchise has taken a huge step back with the previous two games released, and I think with the competition stepping up that Activision will make sure this is a great game. They also said the game will be out on November 11, which is interesting. Are there any other MW3 sites out there with new information on the game? That was the only one I can find that has news on modern warfare 3 consistently and provides new info.

Hmmm after IW lost its real talent, i'm intrigued to see how it will turn out. Well either way it will be praised for some godforsaken reason. The only thing with MW2 was the amount of plot holes that they should fill up in the 3rd one. Unfortunatly after the reveal it will be never be out of the gaming news until release.

I'm sure Blackops actually sold more on PS3?

Ofc for all other FPS it's 360 - I guess cod fanboyism is endemic to playstation.

But on topic who cares about an announcement about modern warfare 3 seriously? If you didn;t realise it was coming then you must live under a rock - under a big rock on jupiters titan moon..

I haven't liked the series since Modern Warfare because they've added nothing new and haven't kept up the same standards but if this game breaks the trend then ofcourse I'll play it.

Well, as the 'game' has been more-or-less the same engine, and visuals since 2007. Its pretty much self explanatory.

@Stonecold, either trying to make up for the BLOPs stuff, or to keep the PS3 community brainwashed, as they are starting to realize where loyaltys lie, with the early-DLC and all.

I seem to be one of the few who actually enjoyed the single player side of MW2 - I thought the campaign was adequate (it was what I expected it to be based on what I'd already seen) and I liked the Spec-Ops mode.

Contrary to popular opinion, I got on with the story somewhat too. So as long as MW3 improves enough on 2 then I might be interested.

Hopefully it'll end this current storyline though :D

I just play CoD4. why play the newer versions when the game that came out in 2007 puts the new CoDs or any shooter for that matter to shame ?

I liked MW2's campaign as well. It was over the top with alot of set pieces and I really liked how they did the ending even though it didn't make any sense.

why would your leader betray you and your country and try to kill you ?

People Love to hate Call of Duty, I just hate to love it.

Nah just joking around I've not played Black ops in a good few weeks as I've been happily distracted by all this Nintendo Goodness. (3DS, DKCR, Kirby)

Why would it show up first in a PS3 mag? PS3 users always get screwed over because no one at treyarch/IW know how to program for the PS3 properly. My guess it will show up in 2 weeks time in an XBOX mag first.

Dude, I'm with you on that. I really enjoy the single player aspect of things. MW2's campaign was rather good and while people complained and had hissy fits about how 'unrealistic' it was I didn't really care. I thought the plot was really good. Same with Black Ops. Bought it used. Played through the awesome campaign and then returned it. Didn't even touch multiplayer. The story is the reason multiplayer is around.

I don't have any big expectations for this game. BF3 is for me the next genre of gaming :) . Cod is old I think, it's been the same old "run and gun" since COD4. If MW3 becomes more squad based as the BF series I may think of buying it. But I'm not feeling it for the COD series anymore. It's the same game over and over again with some few new game modes or special weapons.
