Super Street Fighter IV Wii couldn't match Nintendo 3DS quality - Ono

Technically possible, but not ideal

Since its return in 2009, the Street Fighter IV range has made its way on to everything from the Xbox 360 and PS3 to the PC and iPhone.

Nintendo Wii owners, however, haven't been able to enjoy the classic beat-'em-up on their console. Internet hubbub speculated that the Wii just wasn't powerful enough to accommodate the game.

However, that theory seems less valid since the release of a near-perfect console port of Super Street Fighter IV for the Nintendo 3DS.

We asked Yoshinori Ono, Street Fighter IV creator, if he thought a Wii version was possible and if he was interested in creating one.

Ono said that although he thought it would be technically possible, the result wouldn't hold a candle to the 3DS version of the game.

"Technically speaking of course, it's probably possible to port it to the Wii but it would just be a port" said Ono.

He went on to say that he believes that the portability and having the 3DS specific features would make it the superior version by default.

"Porting it to the Wii now would lack that, given enough time we could but the whole point is that you can play it anywhere and everything is in your hands" added Ono.

According to Ono creating a completely unique experience for the handheld that used its unique feature-set to set it apart from previous versions was one of the driving factors behind development.

"3D Edition isn't just a port. It can only be done on the Nintendo 3DS and nothing else".

"Porting it to the Wii now would lack that, given enough time we could but the whole point is that you can play it anywhere and everything is in your hands" he explained.

So reading between the lines is he saying that portability plays a big factor in its appeal?

Portability and the 3D of course.

But not making a version for Wii is still bs.

Fighters require buttons and more buttons, how could this work to the same degree on Wii with motion controls?

totally rubbish i have tatsunoko vs capcom on wii and street fighther on the 3ds
apart from jaggies from playing wii on a hdtv there would be no problems with it running it.

They don't have to use motion controls, the Wii remote & nunchuk has enough buttons for it to work, plus the Wii does support Classic pad and Gamecube pad, and there are fight sticks available too, it worked for TvC it can work for Street Fighter.

The only I reason I think they have not and won't do a Wii version is because they fear it won't sell much. But I don't believe this rubbish about not enough power or lack of buttons.

So when this guy said 'wait 'til E3 about more SFIV compatability announcements, he wasn't talking about a Wii version. So, reading between the lines, a new Nintendo console will be announced at E3 for sure.

Yeah its kind of pointless of them to do a wii version now anyway, I wouldn't buy it because I already have a great SFIV on my 3DS (and its portable) its not that the wii couldn't match it just that it would be a port as Ono has said.

Bad choice of a headline again CVG.

I think thats BS. They could have put SSF4 on the PS2 if they really wanted to.

with a bit of work u could port SSF4 to a GBA, it wouldnt look as great but it'd still be SSF4.
I think TvsC is good to have on wii and not SSF4, gives it summat to stand out a bit cos its a great fighter, SSF4 on consoles could be made, both PS3 and 360 support 3D now, its just wether it'd have to be a new disk based game or an update. in all fairness tho i wasnt really bothered about it on my 3DS cos i have the PS3 version, not really bothered about fighting wherever i am
