US: 3DS tops day-one sales of any previous Nintendo handheld

Nintendo claims record-breaking launch for 3DS over the pond

Nintendo has said that the 3DS garnered the highest day-one sales figures in US than any previous Nintendo handheld.

3DS hit US shops on Sunday March 27 - two days after UK - when it apparently sold more in 24-hours than any of its older brothers' respective launches.

Nintendo held off disclosing any actual figures, as usual, but did remind us that US launch sales figures will arrive on April 14 in NPDs monthly tallies.

In UK, 3DS pre-orders hit a staggering 140,000, with Nintendo saying opening weekend sales could have hit anything up to 200,000.

Despite rocketing demand, however, Nintendo has assured gamers that supplies of the 3DS won't dry up.

    It's the best.

There's no doubt about it in my mind. The Game Boy, GBA and DS were never as good, even for their time. The DS in particular had terrible graphics from Day 1. The 3DS, on the other hand, looks excellent from Day 1.

    Yes! Wallets are hurting!

But it's worth it I think. I think the 3DS is great so far. I've been playing AR games and Pilotwings, however, if the NGP was out at the same time I would've bought it first.

Look no fan boys arguing over system sales, cherish it while it lasts. *ducks for cover*
