Alan Wake 2 speculation grows

Studio hiring for "a new AAA title"

Remedy Entertainment, developer of Max Payne and more recently Alan Wake, has posted a job opening advertising for a senior level designer to join its "AAA console team".

The job ad states it's looking for someone to work on a game that creates "well-balanced mix of compelling narrative and intense action" with the level designer collaborating with the design and writing teams "to make sure the game matches the storyline and vision as a whole".

The job opening has led to speculation that the studio may be working on a second Alan Wake title. Remedy has previously said it is confident that the IP has a future and described it as a series with "legs".

However, sales of the game suggested otherwise. Alan Wake faced stiff competition from Red Dead Redemption and only managed to generate 145k sales in its opening month, despite positive review buzz.

The latest issue of OXM's added fuel to the rumour fire, writing in its rumour section: "Yes or no for Alan Wake 2? We shook The Ball and it said, 'It looks promising'."

A previous job posting from Remedy suggested the studio was working on a Kinect game using the Alan Wake engine.

Despite the combat being boring, the story was great! Didn't play the DLCs as I had traded in the game before their release, but I would definitely purchase an Alan Wake 2 just to see where the story goes

sales for Alan Wake, have now apparently reached over 1 million,i guess from word of mouth

although saying that Game.co.uk have it for sale brand new for £8.99,which is a damn good deal, and remember that the first DLC(of two) comes with all brand new copies

    Alan Wake 2 plox! :o

Completed the first, didn't understand the end to be honest, but there's room for a sequel!

I would love to see a sequel. The game sold over 1Mil so it warrants that. However, a few changes would be needed.
    - Varied gameply. Not just fight 5-8 enemies before moving to the next forest scene to fight 5-8 more.
    - More Puzzels.
    - Make a Mass Effect style chat system with NPC's - with out comes changing how these character react to what you say.
    - A lot of things to do in the day.
    - Open world, the first was far to linear
    - I thought the story was hard to undersand (but i am dumb when it comes to stories)
    What you think StoneCold?

    StoneCold????

but on topic. Can not wait!
believed in Alan Wake from the start and it was amazing!

I doubt this will be their kinect game as I can't see them delivering a story-driven AAA kinect title =/

And also must be able to rule out a new IP. Who would give them money for a new game after their last attempt failed (start sales). Since its reached over 1 million now the investors might be more confident with a sequel! After all, none of the people who played it (late) could resist continuing the story!

I really need to get a copy of Alan Wake at some point. If it's anything like Deadly Premonition I'll be happy.

I'm here guys!!! I'm away from the office for a few days so can't check in as much as is like, damn work!!!

    Wake 2? Hell frigging yeah.

What would I want to see from a sequel? Simple:

    Variation in the enemies.
    More ways to explore Brightfalls.
    More puzzles.
And keep the story ticking along like it is.

I really believe that if Remedy cando these small things, then we could see a leap akin to UC1 to UC2.

I Hope so, after getting it for xmas, I loved every part of it. Has one of the most impressive stories in a video game. Would love to see more from this franchise and hopefully it would open the door for a PC release again.

if they announced a sequel, it would instantly be my most anticipated game. i really miss games with decent stories, we just don't have enough of them.

I loved the first one. I actually went to ASDA at midnight to buy it, but on the way home crashed my car into a f**king bollard, at first I thought it was because I was half asleep but then later realised it must have been the dark presence.

Anyway, I loved the first one- great graphics, atmospheric, good characters, tight gameplay and controlls plus an interesting story.

Let's hope the second one does better than the first (a la Dead Space)

Deadly Premonition is one of those games I got because word of mouth stated it was good. I personally thought it was a steaming pile of s**t. After 3 hours it went back in its case, never to see the light of day again. I think games like that need a decent engine to relay the creepiness suitably. The bent over backwards people just didn't look right and the first time I saw it I just laughed. Fair do's if you liked it though. I can see how some people would find it a good game. It just wasn't for me.

EDIT: Alan Wake is vastly superior in my opinion. Get it.

It's definitely coming, all the rumours suggest so. As the engine is ready, Remedy can concentrate on adding variety to the gameplay and polishing up the minor flaws that were present in the 1st game. Very interested to see how Kinect is implemented if they include it in the final game.

Aye was disappointed by the lack of investigating around Brightfalls and the lack of enemy variations. Otherwise I enjoyed my time on the game. 8)

Best game I played in such a long time. As a Twin Peaks/The Dark Tower nut it is basically made for me which is lovely.
Hoping for more exploring and more dialogue, was eating the dialogue up in AW, great writing.

    Possibly spoilers coming....

'It's not a lake, it's an ocean', opens up Bright Falls to be a seaside town, now I can't get the idea of a boat trip and some huge boss fight. If Alan was sensible enough to turn it into an ocean maybe he was sensible enough to make something guard the area and Jaws crossed with Twin Peaks is something that is very appealing to me.

What I want to know is who we get to play as, Alan, I think not unless he gets amnesia which would be lame. My vote is for an FBI agent investigating it whilst at the same time searching for the best coffee and pie in the world. That would be my vote for most things tough.

Nice!!!! looking forward to that announcement will be sweet hopefully it doesnt take them as long to male this one as the one before it and i too would like to see more open areas to explore maybe without respawning enemies as i would sometimes run myself out of ammo while exploring

Was Alan Wake any good? I was going to get it for the PC but then it didn't come out.

  22. equinox80 on 4 Apr '11 said:

@ spam23 - my advice would be get it. I've only just started playing it and find it a great game and very under-rated. I got it for £8.99 from Amazon last week and I think it's still around that price and for that you can't really go wrong.

I'm looking forward to finishing the story at which point I'll check out the DLC and I will definitely get AW2, probably long before it falls below the £10 mark.

I absolutely loved Alan Wake, I didn't play anything else when I had that game. I used to turn the lights off, crank the volume up and immerse myself in the brilliantly crafted world.

One thing that would be nice in a sequel is a little more resolution. I never used to notice these things when I played it but I re-brought not long ago and it just didn't look like it used to....... maybe because I'm a little more aware of some of these things now........ I wish I wasn't.....

One of the most underrated games on Xbox! If you have not played it - GO GET IT! It's simply brilliant!

  25. kirankara on 4 Apr '11 said:

Wouldn't expect higher res tbh mate , not unless they really pare back the effects and lighting etc, as they struggled to get it running the way they did which is why it got lowered in first place , as game was originally on higher res.
