Earthbound creator Shigesato Itoi has used the latest Iwata Asks discussion to inform fans that he will not be making another follow up to the series.
Earhbound - or 'Mother' in Japan - was originally released for Famicom in 1989. The SNES follow up was called Earthbound in the US but the final game in the series - Mother 3 - was another Japan-only release. Since then, Mother 3's lead character Lucas has starred in Super Smash Bros Brawl but it seems that this could be his final appearance in a videogame.
"I'm not going to release a Mother 4," Itoi told Nintendo President Satoru Iwata. "Mother is over now. But lately I've started to really appreciate having released three Mother games."
Having said that, Itoi does understand why fans want another game in the series. "The feeling of, 'I want a Mother 4 to be released!' is inside me, too. Even if it's not something I need to do, I still feel that way. If there were a fourth game, I'd want to be the player."
