Killzone 3 'Steel Rain' DLC hits today

Two new maps on the way

Sony has confirmed that the first DLC pack for Killzone 3 will be available later today through the PlayStation Store.

Called Steel Rain, the DLC includes two new multiplayer maps that have been inspired by areas from the single-player campaign.

Junkyard is a Guerrilla Warfare map featuring jetpacks and exoskeletons while Stahl Arms is a Warzone map in a Helghan weapons manufacturing plant.

Guerrilla Games is also to release a new patch for Killzone 3 today which introduces various fixes and gameplay tweaks, along with the ability to create custom matches with the choice of game type, map, missions, squad members and more.

Any idea on the price of the map pack? Only 2 maps as well, come on we need more than that!

Well all 6 maps for the previous game came in packs of 2 for £7.99 each. And people say COD map packs are a rip-off? The only good thing is that you can split in with a mate to get them if you've traded profile info.

Think they supposed to be less than four pounds like the two old maps from kz2 were, so not bad value at all really . Plus the maps are more than two foot by two unlike cod.

    £4.99 apparently

Either way until they fix the map choice glitch I'm not buying it, it annoys hell out me, as I paid for dlc and game on day one and it's irritating life out me.
Great game, but the community is almost dead as game was half finished and glitchy

There was word that Playstation Plus members were getting this for free for the first month.

I must be playing a different game to you.

what else do u call game that has a stuck map glitch, spawn camping issues, had lag and hit detection issues, didnt have the custom games built in on release , despite being standard in kz2 etc etc.
im not hating on game, but it was rushed, and is glitchy/unbalanced at times in mp. this was sonys fault, as they wanted it out to push 3d/move, and u can tell things werent fully finished.
games got amazing potential imo, its better than crysis 2 and cod on mp, and i loved the sp, but the community has dropped in numbers drastically as ppl got fed up, so its backfired it seems

I've had plenty of games in plenty of different maps, not been stuck on one? You do know you can vote for which map you want to play next right?
Camping is how people play the game and not a tec issue with it. Just because some people like to sit in one place (normaly just inside a doorway) doesn't mean the game is broken, just being played poorly.
I think the hit detection is fine, certainly a lot better than CoD and it only seems to lag on the odd occasion (again it seems a lot more robust than other on-line shooters)
The only glitches I've seen are people leaving the playing area, which is fine as they never seem to cause any problems when they get there (plus its takes them so long to work out which route to take they make easy targets)
How can you tell its been rushed, as it seems far more polished than most other shooters out there at the mo.
Looking forward to the update, as some of the issues you have look to be addressed (I've not had any issues with it but then I'm very easily pleased..... so I've been told) and the addition of inter-clan matches will be great.

I've not had any hit detection issues or suffered from the Salamun map glitch, and spawn camping, while it p**ses me off, is not a glitch. I haven't been disconnected from a single game yet either.

@ensabahnur: Dunno where you got your info but I bought all the Killzone 2 map packs as soon as they released and each cost under a fiver, plus they were then all bundled together: 6 maps for £9.99 and I could play them online and offline, so yeah CoD map packs are still rip offs compared to Killzone 2 map packs. Do some research first.

There is a glitch related to the dlc available on day one, the two old maps from kz2, which they havent resolved, and keeps u stuck on the same map , usually killzone 3 salamun market i think. only way to resolve it currently is to delete dlc, or exit game and start again.

the spawn camping issue, is different to camping, its the way the game places u back in game. If it places u right next to an enemy then that's a spawning issue. Spawn camping is in objective based games, where it allows campers to stay next to the place where your team are spawned, this is a technical/design issue, as it ruins the game completely, as ppl sit in same place and kill u as u spawn.

its been rushed, this is clear from the issues that u find mentioned on the forums including the lack of custom games , the hge amount of fine tuning they doing to in game mechanics etc.

It looks fantastic, and whats there is quite polished, its whats not there, and whats wrong with it still thats the issue. Using medic is pointless as no one knows if a medic is coming and thus chooses to die and respawn, whereas an indicator on map showing medic on way, would make all the difference.

its also common knowledge Sony pushed them to release it to fit with their push on move and 3d.

here is an article that tells how the actors used were under extremely tight schedules, often with last minute changes. its not "proof" it just gives u an idea of how things were going.

Pretty sure when the first 1 came out it was £7.99, i didn't buy them then and waited until the bundle pack came out and shared them with my mates so as to lower the cost even more.
I may well have been wrong and apologize if i am. All i know is they cost me buttons, as will the new ones.

@ensabahnur: I certainly wouldn't have bought it if it was £7.99 as you say as at the time I'd recently got burnt on Resistance 2 DLC. I want to say each pack cost £4.79 but my memory is hazy and I can't access the store to check the price, most likely due to the anonymous plonkers.

Spawn camping was also in Killzone 2, it just destroyed the Radec Academy map, its also in BFBC2 and MoH, spawn camping isn't a poor design choice, its just a cheap, cowardly way for people to inflate their K/D ratio and to take out all the fun of multiplayer games for others.

Personally I find the Killzone map packs good value for money as I play them in Botzone first to learn the layout before proceeding to the multiplayer.

No your right, they were priced at £4.79. Dunno where i got the £7.99 from, must have been another Map pack that came out near the same time.

    http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/wolve ... -refresher

As i said i ended up getting the bundle pack and splitting the cost with a few mates who i traded profiles with.

Has anyone confirmed whether or not PS+ users get them free as one of my mates is a + user and i'm gonna see if they can be downloaded multiple times?

And spawn camping has never been an issue for me in KZ3, most spawn areas have multiple exits and if your team mates take over the extra spawn points in the maps be sure to use them instead and you can double back and take out the campers.

@ensabahnur: Its free to Plus subs until May BUT you lose it if you let subscription expire, it says this on the description in the Plus section of the store. Think i'll just stump up the 4 quid to keep it forever than pay another 11 quid to play it after my sub ends.

    Theres always a catch.

it is a design flaw, and its nowhere near as prominent is bc2. how can letting u spawn near where ppl are attacking not be a design flaw???

  16. TheLastDodo on 6 Apr '11 said:

Spawn camping is prevalent in BFBC2, it doesn't happen all the time, same as every shooter but it still happens, and in the case of BFBC2 the home spawn bases are on opposite ends of the map, nowhere near the objectives in Conquest mode (which spawn camping mostly takes place in from my experience) but I can't go a few hours without a few of the opposition turning up to my base with tanks and helicopter's. When that happens you're pretty much f**ked.

One of the good things Killzone 3 has going for it is that it has those super armoured turrets in the home spawn points so no one on the opposing team can enter your base and kill you, it also has a camera over the TSA's so you can see if theres spawn camping pussy waiting for you.

If it's nearly £5 for 2 maps, then COD seems generous in comparison.

  18. kirankara on 6 Apr '11 said:

But in bc2 u can choose where u want to spawn based on where u squad mates are, an option not available in kz3.u simply get dumped in same place awaiting someone trying to gun u down.

I love this game, but I'm not paying over a fiver for 2 new maps. Plus I hate those f**king exoskeletons.

  20. TheLastDodo on 6 Apr '11 said:

    @Multiplayerking: It's £3.99 for the 2 maps.

@kirankara: I'll agree that being able to spawn on squad mates is something Killzone 3 should have, it can be a game changing feature in BC2. I can't remember if a squad spawn feature was in Killzone 2. Damn you've made me realise that I need to start playing BC2 again.

I bought maps after all, as no point playing crysis at moment online, and it was 3.99 for maps, but I had £1 on account allready and had to top up 5, as its minimum , f'in con . Ms and Sony both robbing swine.

Bc2 is the daddy of online console games .
