PSP price cut by 24% in Europe

"There is no better value portable entertainment system around," Sony says

Update: Sony has told CVG that today's PSP price cut is for mainland Europe only. The company said in a statement that unfavourable UK exchange rates mean a price cut isn't currently planned on this side of the pond.

Original story: Sony Computer Entertainment has cut the PSP's price by 24 percent in Europe in a bid to boost sales of the platform.

The firm said on its website that the handheld will carry a suggested retail price of €129.99 (about £114) beginning today. That's down from €169.99.

SCEE European hardware marketing manager Isabelle Tomatis said: "The console's new recommended retail price, complimented by a whole host of affordable games in the Essentials, Platinum and minis collections, opens up a world of portable gaming for less - particularly for our younger audiences.

"Along with the entertainment services available to all PSP owners on PlayStation Network, there is no better value portable entertainment system around."

The move follows PSP and PSP Go price cuts introduced by Sony Computer Entertainment America in February and March respectively.

PSP successor NGP is planned for release later this year.

I'm just going to wait for the NGP. Picked up a Experia Play a few days ago so I'm fine with that. I do have a psp but it doesn't work .

well a 2TB external hard drive costs around £80-100 and i think you'll get more out of it than a psp.

120 quid for a PSP is a joke... You can get 2nd hand ones for less than half of that but its a moot point anyways.

Barring Japan the PSP market is dead. Go into any store and the stock levels are appalling. The 3DS has a bigger section in most stores and thats only got 13-14 games.

I love my PSP and my son plays on it most of the time but out of every single person i know who owns one they all have CFW.

For me its because some games are impossible to get hold of and the emu stuff is a million times better than the stock library.

Mario Kart multiplayer is a joy and for Snes titles the pad is perfect. Possibly the best platform for emus right now imo.

Still not worth 120 notes tho...

£114 isn't a bad price but you can get it around £50 now if you shop around.

I still wouldn't get a PSP because there aren't any games on it that interest me. Besides anyone with enough sense is just going to wait until the NGP comes out (which I have to admit does look pretty sweet :D).

Sony are generally oblivious to other companies products... especially when they are better than Sony's product.

No media, all games are downloaded.

Well, that's me not joining the NGP fanclub for the time being.

Sony and others may think it's the future having no media but for me it's a massive massive backward step that I will not take untill downloadable content reduces to prices that are realistic and are similar to second hand game prices.

Not true, games and apps can be downloaded, but the full price platform titles will also be purchaseable on a memory stick format with functionality like cartridges from days of old.
