Sony Computer Entertainment America CEO Jack Tretton has launched a stinging attack on his rivals' products, which he says are technologically behind the times and losing relevance in today's market.
"If you're really going to sustain technology for a decade, you have to be cutting edge when you launch a platform," he told Fortune. "Here we are four years into the PlayStation 3, and it's just hitting its stride.
"We'll enjoy a long downhill roll behind it because the technology that was so cutting edge in 2006 is extremely relevant today and is conspicuously absent in our competition.
"Motion gaming is cute, but if I can only wave my arms six inches, how does this really feel like I'm doing true accurate motion gaming?"
He went on to suggest that the DS line of handhelds - which he labelled the "Game Boy experience" - aren't in competition with PSP.
"Our view of the Game Boy experience is that it's a great babysitting tool, something young kids do on airplanes, but no self-respecting twenty-something is going to be sitting on an airplane with one of those. He's too old for that."

It's a good job the general public don't hear about these statements as then games would be seen as being even more immature than they usually get portrayed in the media. Are all heads of console manufacturers looking to get careers in politics next? PSP V DS there is no competition here the DS owned the PSP & if they cannot get NGP out at a decent price the same will happen again with 3DS owning NGP as they tried to recently say that basically the consumer will pay whatever they want for ngp if they think it is worth it that for a lot of people is utter b*****ks as price is one of if not the top reason people buy something.
As for HDD less 360 simply pick up a standard 360 HDD strip off the casing & put it inside the console works like a charm both my brothers have done this with theirs without any problems.
Sony products are good but lets face it they have completely lost the plot in recent years the extortionate price of PS3 at launch then the stripping away of some of its features because they realised afterwards that some of them were not really needed but they took away a big selling point in BC with PS2 so they & other publishers can re-release their games & sell you the same games you bought 5-7 years ago just because they are in HD yay!
NGP looks good I do not really like the touch pad on the back of the machine to be honest & watching videos of it being demonstrated on uncharted just made it look very awkward to use IMO.
They need to get a grip & focus on their own products & problems of which they have many & just put out the best product they can at a decent cost to the consumer with the right marketing instead of all this bulls**t.

Sure the PSP may do all kinds of jiggerypokery, its just a shame that the only thing it doesnt do well is be a games machine. theres a reason Nintendo handhelds have reigned for past 20yrs, they pure fun, may not be the most techincally impressive machines but the games great quality. Handhelds are intended to be 'baysitters' there sole pourpose is to keep kids quiet on car journeys and while parents try to do housework.

i have to disagree with mr tretton as i am 21 and i still enjoy playing with my DS, whether its pokemon games on DS or game boy advance, to mario kart DS, sitting off in the street on a warm day with my mates, basically im still a child at heart.

I have both consoles and even had a wii for while, and each has their own pros and cons. I overall prefer my ps3 to my 360, but so far we've seen very few instances of it out muscling 360 with Only odd exclusive like uc2, kz3 etc looking like it's summat more than we've seen in 360 and I expect Gears 3 to look pretty sumptuous . Maybe in near future odd ps3 exclusive fame will show that it's capable of more , but even if it is I don't expect huge advancements , as theoretically ps3 is slightly more powerful , it's just too expensive for devs to utilise that unless backed by Sony with financial and technical support.
Ps mOve hasn't been a disaster, they just havent pushed it commercially like kinnect, and thus sold less. I'm guessing come end of console lifespan, the move sells similar quantities to kinnect, as there seems to be a business model of actually making games that are worth playing with move , and these sell move, rather than hype and no games for hardcore on kinnect.

What's been announced for either of them? Forza 4, Gears 3 and....err...and on to Wii....Zelda and...god damnit! I can remember reading some stupid comments from 360 fanboys when Sony said about their exclusives for this year, saying "yeah, well, they have to do that so people will stick with that piece of plastic" and, once again, of course they are going to let their users now what they've got to look forward to.
This is business. End of. Grow the hell up.
By the way, I do prefer Sony, but still put copious hours into my 360, probably more on average. They are both amazing consoles and, dare I say it, the 360 might be better when compared to the PS3 in my opinion. But as a company, Sony wins. Going after hackers? Brave move...maybe a bit stupid, but hey, it's all sorted now and at least they haven't given in.
As for the DS comment, I love my DS, leave it alone

And no, he's not paid to do that at all. The Wii is of course not a competitor not being a next-gen console. If we were to bring last-gen consoles into the equation then we would surely also have to consider the PS2 as a competitor to the 360 - and one which still often outsells it, at that!

You can buy an arcade 360 of course, but u'd have to be brain dead to do so, as u will get fudge packed when it comes to buying a hard drive later.
As discussed before, very few games on either system are 1080p, as they cant handle the sheer amount of detail and maintain a decent frame rate. There was a few games early on in the life cycles of ps3 and 360 that were genuinely 1080p, but were simpler games. See list below for proof, with a large list of resolutions on both formats. the games u think are 108p are upscaled to 1080p, not genuinely 1080p.

One of only high profile games that really is highly detailed and runs at 1080p is gran tursimo 5, but that operates with quincux as opposed to 4xmsaa in 1080p mode, so u lose some of the crispness, but still have the number of pixels.
@armbar, yes the wii is underpowered, but theres some great games on it too, and if u were a genuine fan of gaming , ud want one too. i used to have one from day 1, but traded in to get my ps3, as i couldnt justify owning it along with ps3 and 360, as i dont have time or money to own all 3. Mario galaxy is possibly the greatest game ive ever played, with perfect controls and theres more imagination and inventiveness in one level than u find in most games. u'd be a fool to miss out, as u think ur too old or cool for sub hd graphics, which in the case of good artistic direction dont really matter. mario galaxy is still beautiful now.
