Nintendo to give away free 3DS Excitebike

Free classic game to tempt firmware update

Nintendo's set to give away a free classic game via Nintendo 3DS's upcoming eShop.

According to reports out of Nintendo's Japanese investor meeting this morning, Nintendo plans to add an incentive for 3DS owners to update their systems next month, by distributing a 3D version of Excitebike free of charge.

The firmware update will add, among other things, the eShop and a 3DS internet browser.

Iwata reportedly told investors this morning Nintendo plans to start by releasing Game Boy and Game Boy Colour games on the 3DS shop, but after that it wants to add more classic formats to the service (GBA?)

We'll hopefully have more on this for you shortly.

Thanks Loggi

Oh my god. Nintendo are actually going to give something good for a change! Who would've thought that would ever happen again?

Like I need an incentive to download the update...I can't wait for it! I'll still take Excitebike though, thanks.

I would love it if they released the sattelaview exclusive version of excite bike which featured Mario characters http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8aQQthaZLXQ

but as i posted in a previous article. the regular DS/DSi can play upto N64 via a flashcart (snes/megadrive ruin great, n64 slightly iffy) so theres no reason we cant have portable N64 games. Imagine your at home on your Wii hackin away at Zelda 3, whoops, time for work/college/school. save game, transfer to 3DS and continue wehre u left off while your on bus, get home end of day, transfer back and sit down all confy on sofa playing on big screen. Just how iawata described with the video streaming service, do it for VC games

As Mad Garrotter said... what a strange way to start a sentence... anyway, as Mad Garrotter said, I don't need an incentive to download the update, I'm (im)patiently waiting for it. But a freebie is much appreciated! I really hope GBA games are made available for download too. Somehow I missed a ton of good'ns.

Looking forward to making tracks that I can then completely fail to complete due to bad design.
