Nintendo working to 'promptly' release 3DS 3D video service

Coming after the eShop update in May, says Iwata

A 3D video delivery service for the 3DS might not be as far off as it would seem.

Nintendo big man Satoru Iwata has said in an investor's conference this week that 3DS is in urgent need of "contents which can be enjoyed passively by non-active users" - like a 3D video service, which will be a top priority after the launch of the eShop update next month.

"We think it is very important to provide people with contents in which they can easily experience glassless 3D images," said Iwata, during a discussion on how Nintendo will overcome a lack of public understanding of the 3DS and its features.

"In particular, we need to enhance the contents which can be enjoyed passively by non-active users, like a 3D video distribution service," he said. "We will promptly work on this after the currently planned hardware update."

eShop will be launched next month via a system update download, adding the Internet Browser and online shop through which users will be able to buy Virtual Console games and '3D Classics'. Nintendo will give away a free 3D version of Excitebike to coax users into updating.
