Speculation's growing that Blizzard's long, long coming Diablo three-quel could make it out in 2011, as the developer reveals it's "in the home stretch" of development.
Speaking to the New York Times this week, Diablo III's game director Jay Wilson said: "We're definitely in the home stretch. We're crunching. This is when the magic happens."

That "we would never do," the publisher said in an investor call earlier this year.
In a year where we're finally (probably) going to see Duke Nukem Forever come out, it makes a lot of sense for Diablo to nail 2011 too.

There needs to be some scrutiny here. What constitues an RPG?
I know that "RTS" gets used for virtually any game seen in top-down or isometric where you control more than one unit (leaving out Pacman, but little else).
RPG used to mean "Roleplaying game" - so something along the lines of Dungeons and Dragons, and the like. Just having some dude with a sword, or someone in a pointy hat casting spells does not make the game "a roleplaying game". Nor does having a few stats you can upgrade on. It's a fantasy themed point and click action game. It's got nothing to do with roleplaying - I seem to remember playing both Diablo 1 and 2, and never really coming across any decisionmaking, any "dialogue options" or the like.
Can't you wannabe journo-types develop a sense of humor, and stop fitting all games into .. what.. 4 basic categories? Please?
Roleplaying games is something like Vampire Bloodlines, Baldur's Gate, etc. Diablo isn't roleplaying. It's clicking 'till your mouse breaks apart, and splattering anything in the immediate vicinity with big-ass weapons. Not that there's anything wrong with that

I for some reason get the feeling that this will come out for consoles and that there is good possibility that we will hear something around E3 ahh proly not just wishful thinking.

I could hardly have put it better myself. A gold star to you, good sir!
In the case of Diablo 3, it is one of those exceedingly rare occasions where I've taken to the idea presented by others, that this game's gameplay mechanics might actually work better on a console with a controller than on a PC with a mouse and keyboard!
If such an announcement is made by Blizzard, I'd probably go for it (albeit second hand for the console since I then have the ability not to support Activision whom I despise - they can thank good ol' Bobby Kotick for that in large part).

I was unimpressed with Diablo 2, and very disappointed with Starcraft 2. Blizzard has lost their way. It started before Activision but it's dramatically accelerating now. I'll hold out final judgment for the actual game but I'm definitely NOT buying outright and likely will not buy at all.
