Wii successor 'really is fantastic platform' - Ubisoft

French publisher anticipates easy cross-over of assets from PS3/Xbox

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has said Nintendo's Wii successor is a "fantastic platform" and points to continued success for the platform holder.

"The platform that Nintendo is coming with is really a fantastic platform," said Guillemot in an investors call earlier today, almost teasing us with whatever he knows about the machine.

Following a number of leaks last month, Nintendo confirmed plans to launch a Wii follow up next year. It'll be showing off a playable model of the console at E3 next month.

"We think that it will be extremely successful," Guillemot added, before going on to say the firm expects cross platform development to be easy with the new console thanks to its comparable specs to the current HD consoles.

"What we see is that we will be able to leverage a lot of the work we do for the Xbox 360 and PS3 when we create games for the platform," said Guillemot. "So we will not have to completely redo the games we create. We will be able to use all of the capacity the console offers and also use all of the work that we do for the other platforms."

Hopefully this won't translate into a barrage of re-releases/ports of current HD games when Nintendo does drop its new machine. But then, this is Ubisoft we're talking about...
