The news of PSN's return back online today has understandably caused a lot of excitement amongst European CVG readers, and yet one burning question remains: When is my PlayStation Network going to be back to normal?
By the looks of things, any time now.

Or in other words, Sony is making sure everything's tickety-boo in the US, and should be reaching your little black box o' magic later today.
Most European PS3 owners can already download Firmware 3.61, but cannot yet sign into PSN or connect to its online services.
Sony boss Kaz Hirai has said that online gaming functionality is being seen as a priority feature as the company begins rolling out its various services onto the network.
The PlayStation Ireland Facebook page reported earlier: "Hi guys, just to clarify some PSN services, including online gameplay, will indeed go live later today (Sunday)."

Last night, at about 3:30am, my PS3 downloaded and updated the system. There were a couple of new additions, but it's not fully restored yet. I'm still happy for Sony to take all the time they need. I still think the hackers who have forced this upon all of us are c*nts! Selfish, dumb, immature, soon to be heavily fined or imprisioned c*nts!

Time to fire up Portal 2 and access my Steam account and then i'm going to have a co-op game with my PC mate. After that, i'll take my Enzo for a spin on the Nurburgring with a few racing chums in GT5.

They say to download the update and change your password, but the network's down so it won't let me sign in to change my password.
Also, I've been patient for the last few weeks while they sorted this whole thing out; the US twitter feed was updated almost state-by-state to let people know when different areas were being switched back on - can't the EU community team do the same? I thought they'd have learned the importance of keeping your consumers informed after this whole thing.

God some of u are whiny lil girls.
Maybe they did the USA first as it was the biggest and most difficult job. The USA is huge and probably the biggest and most difficult country to get up and running again.

not a question of moaning about PSN coming back up,its a question of SONY and PSN EU still making the same dumb decisions and favouritism..it's middle of the day here, this is when people play video games, tomorrow people are back in work/school so they wont be able to play until they get home...its now 4am-6am in yank land, and they have it all back up and has been for a few hours and there are more PS3s in EU...as said, dumb

They probably brought it up in the US overnight in a hope of not overwhelming the network with a sudden influx of people all trying to get online, Europe will probably be staggered by region for the same reason.
Plus the US seem to hate the PS3 more than other region so those customers are more likely to trade their console because of the downtime, bringing them back up first makes sense. The Japanese like the PS3 a lot more which is probably why they seem like they will be the last region back online.

I'm usually a very patient man, but the last few weeks have tested me a bit. I'm happy to see it return as well as the awesome free extras we're getting. I can wait a little while longer, going back to work tomorrow for a new summer wave of exams anyway, I invigilate them part time. When my S-Video cable arrives then I'll be even happier, made a couple of mishaps when trying to order it to record decent quality on my Dazzle, one set back after another on that. XD Good to know Sony have finally nailed down their system, but I suppose the next week will tell the truth. If it goes down again, I don't even want to think of the backlash..

ever thought they were working through entire day yesterday on bringing up us servers, considering the size of country etc. They may even have wanted to bring it online in day, but was further delays, or as someone else suggested they wanted to avoid huge rush of ppl, and overloading servers initially.
Maybe the work on Europes servers is still ongoing, and they still ironing out problems, theres so many possible reasons as to why they did this, that all make sense more than Sony favouring usa

But past form of all console companies leads people to the usual idea of the EU being treated like the bastard off spring of Japan and the US. I'm sure it's just because they get p**sed having to convert to so many languages!

It would also help if there was one ratings approval authority in the region.
kirankara on 15 May '11 said:
in terms of game releases it's often true, and ur right that it probably is largely down to publishers or devs(note not sony here with games lol) having to translate all the different languages, as they only release one disk across all of Europe.
Nintendo have said this many times why they delay games on release here, or dont even bother releasing smaller jap based titles

True dat. f**k Europe, just give the UK the same s**t as the US!

I haven't been bothered about PSN being down as I haven't used the PS3 for a while (Been hammering Splinter Cell: Conviction, Deadly Premontion and of course, Reach) ... but now there's free stuff to leech I may have to have a looksy. Huzzah!

Splinter cell was bit of let down, was fun but not very long and never really seemed to expand on the basic premises it developed. Thought it was going to be amazing after first few levels, but it was just good instaed.
might have to wait few days for freebies though mate.

@Kirankara: I dunno- I really enjoyed it, though it was much, much easier and therefore shorter than the other Cells. And Fisher kinda looked a bit wierd. Like he had been fused with George Clooney or something. Can't beat Chaos Theory though.
Regarding the freebies: pooh sticks.
