FIFA 12 3DS does NOT have online head-to-head play features, despite announcements made to the contrary earlier this month.
This head-to-head online mode was understood to be just one of eight different modes, including a five-a-side mode and the standard 11-a-side game.

Disappointing to say the least, but you can perhaps take some comfort in knowing that the online mode is still on the table for the future.

Why is it when we move to newer technology the developers seem to take 2 or 3 steps backward? Is it just lazy development?
We have been able to play FIFA online on the DS since 2007 (FIFA 08) - although this was the fourth title on DS and came 2 years after launch. But surely after providing online for four years, it wouldn't be too much to expect them to implement what has become a standard feature in most modern games?
It's not just EA, Konami and Nintendo themselves are guilty of 'not bothering' (PES 20011 and the up-coming Star Fox) whether it's to keep costs down or to meet target release dates I really feel it is unacceptable these days, regardless of whether it's on a Nintendo platform or not. Can you imagine if the first FIFA game on the next gen SONY/MICROSOFT consoles didn't play online? Crazy!
If Capcom can offer online from the off with Street Fighter and Resident Evil, then these other big companies are just plain lazy IMO.

I agree some laziness going on here, though I don't think Starfox needs online, would be nice of course but I don't think multiplayer is its stongest point. As for EA I think they just do things like this to give people an excuse to keep buying their games, next year "FIFA 13 3DS, now with online head-to-head play
" Limit features in todays edition just to add them in tomorrows edition, it's smart business.

This is just so typical of all things EA on Nintendo consoles lately. They have to cut something back for some reason...
Even if we know it's perfectly possible for it to work.

I agree multi-player has never been Star Fox 64's strongest point, it was a very basic dog fight in a few 'fogy arenas'. But imagine if they put a little extra work in and added 8 player online dog fights or 4 vs 4 team based play (Team Fox vs Team Wolf) some new and improved arenas, other modes like protect the base or capture the item.
Imagine if you had the option to play through the story in a four player co-op mode, sure some of the set pieces would go out the window like saving Slippy or Falco, but you'd be able to help each other out as and when you needed too and battle for the best points in each level. They could even have voice chat or video chat, it really isn't beyond the realms of possibility and would add more value to a 14 year old game.
4J Studios done a similar thing with the Perfect Dark remake for XBLA, if they can do it for a XBLA title then I don't see why the mighty Nintendo can't put in the extra work for a full price retail game. If your going to do a remake make full use of the technology available to you, not a half as*ed port with new textures.

lazy, if Fifa 08 Wii had it, then surely the more powerful 3DS could handle it?
