Agent 'still in development' for PS3, confirms Take Two

Console-exclusive Rockstar title still on its way

So little has been said of Agent in the past year (i.e. nothing has been said) that you'd be forgiven for thinking it'd been quietly slammed in the bin. But it hasn't.

Agent Screenshot
Take-Two confirmed during its investors call today that the title is 'still in development', despite the fact that we've heard sweet FA about it since the last time Take-Two insisted it was still in development.

The game was previously confirmed for a 2010 launch before going AWOL and hiding in a cave in Pakistan somewhere.

The firm also confirmed that Max Payne 3 is still in development, which doesn't come as quite as big a surprise considering screenshots of the Rockstar Vancouver title were release two weeks ago.

Good to hear this. I was interested when first announced and was worried that it had been left by the wayside. Hope it is as good as promised. Not to open old wounds from previous articles/posts in regards to LA Noire, but I think Agent was the PS3 exclusive game that R*/Take-Two where doing. Thank you Dublin and good night.

Maybe Brink is the answer to the meaning of life *sits back and ponders while stroking my chin*

This does beg the question; will you save the ark, or escape it?

    Yay!

Hopefully, it uses the same facial tech as LA Noire.

agent will be the definitive rockstar game this generation.

But its really not going to be that at all. The facial pish 'as you call it would suit the subtler elements of being a spy brilliantly. you know that whole interrogation side of it. What with thier job being information gathering and all.

svd i have a feeling that you are going to be mightly disappointed with it, I hope not for your sake. But if R* are going to continue down the same creative endervour of making all its franchises distinctive ie not another GTA then worldwide GTA is the last thing Agent will be.

RDR was a wild western GTA and that was awesome.

and goldeneye had facial tech like that robot from red dwarf, that was espionage greatness. no need for over-active pretentious jaw bones and eyebrows waggling about. IV had a perfectly engaging storyline and acting.

lets not forget 1970's spy agents didn't sit and fill out a notebook or scratch their chin while they read subtle expressions from a witnesses... they kicked ass and asked the questions later.

a sandbox with epic locations around the world, interlacing storyline and GTA-like action like be more than enough. plus they will be introducing new mechanics like stealth, possibly gadgets, different vehicles and the stylish period artwork that will make this game stand out from grand theft.

don't want a close-up of some mongs face acting like they are on pills or retarded.

this be will be 007 goldeneye meets metal gear!! not some prohibition-era poncy s**te! :o

Erm, prohibition was about 25 odd years earlier. LA Norie is fantastic, great homage to one of the best film genres and has the best soundtrack of any game bar none (of course helps if you are a fan of blues and jazz). Although my opinions may change if they ever bring out Rock Bank John Coltrane :p

You want action? Well its hardly a gap in the market - it full of this stuff. Its great to have one or two games that have a slightly more sedate, story driven feel. Tbh I'd rather watch Sunset Boulevard than Iron Man, if you would prefer the latter than don't buy this game. I can't believe people can get so riled by the fact that you can have more than one genre of game and that people might actually prefer said genre.

Prohibition ended in 1933. LA Noire is set in 1947. It’s also a lot of things, but poncy s**te it ain’t.

Anyway, good to hear The Agent is still on track, I’d be interested to see how it pans out. The spy genre is woefully under-explored, and something which I personally find really interesting (still need to play Alpha Protocol, though I worry it’s gash…)

Just a shame it’s not on both Xbox and PS3, as I won’t get the opportunity to play this either.

Hate to burst your bubble but 007 Goldeneye was never the most accurate representation of what spying actually is, and Metal Gear was never the most realistic spy sim on the planet either.

If you want generic ass-kickery there are already thousands of games out there why not play one of them.

  17. svd_grasshopper on 25 May '11 said:

who said goldeneye was an accurate representation of spying?! or that MGS was a realistic spy sim?!!

... and if we are doing corrections, it's 'agent' not 'the agent'. the agent is a canned MMO.

people who like to do the ass kicking, not potter through some storytellers agenda in a point n click adventure dressed up in disguise.

and possibly going to be the coolest and most stylish rockstar game... or just game, ever.

the idea of an international GTA is just too awesome. lets just hope they don't spend all their time developing characters that are constantly gurning, and focus on the gameplay. 8)

Considering you can pick it up for a tenner or less these days i'd recommend alpha protocol. It's not prefect but its not the worst game in the world by a country miles. It's got some good performances with it and emotion based conversation bits are rather well done.

As for agent. we know its going to be well researched so i'm expecting a lot of shady meetings in parks with people called black bear and trying to cause as little chaos as possible.

Does anyone else think that SVDs total knowledge of the spy genre is james bond and maybe bourne?

Wow... just wow. Congratulations for the most retarded joke by a CVG "journalist" yet :?

On topic, glad to hear this is still being worked on... the prospect of a 70's international GTA has always had me foaming at the mouth! And if it truly is going to be PS3-exclusive then hopefully it has an extra level of polish too!

    8) I just hope that it will come to the 360 as well, with the rather impresive sales of LA NOIRE on both platforms it only makes sense(financial perspective) to bringit to a bigger audience. Make it happen ROCKSTAR :!: even if it will be a timed exclusive for the ps3 first.

they want to make an unrestricted and special game.

that means open sandbox, different cities, seemless gameplay. that means one BR disc.

That sounds like it would lend its self fine to multiple discs. A different disc for a different city, disc 1 london, disc 2 moscow kind of thing.

Unless you're suggessting they're going to make a game inwhich you can litereally drive from paris to walsaw and back again. with no load screens at all. In which case i think you're grossly overestimating the ps3s capablilities.

and even with loadscreens, they would want to make it so the story isn't deadly linear so you can explore everything as you wish, and hop between cities at will... which would be a BIG pain on multi discs - as such the story would probably be bolted down and it would be dictated to you when you reach different cities on xbox... a big reason behind why this game is on ps3.

a good spy can't realistically hope for an easy point-to-point conveinent tour of the world when he is investigating global terrorists plots.

Whilst Rockstar own the IP, this won't become multi-platform due to a deal with Sony, plus Rockstar have stated that it's best to remain exclusive when launching a new IP. Any sequels will most likely be multi-platform, but by the time this comes out, the PS3 could be priced around £150-199 anyway!

I want to know how a story can be anything else but linear. there's a point a and a point b. The only difference will be how you get there. And where those points will end up. Knowing R* the sotry will be linear but require a bit of rock hopping in between.

Also if i was a spy in the 70's if we are assuming the guys going to be english. he'd only have to go as far as Ireland to investigate a terrorist plot.

Still i look forward to inevitable disappointment. You've already in you mind made this game something far in adavance of what it ever turns out like. Kind of similar to what i did with GTA london when i was a kid. It was going to be in 3d and you were going to be able to go into all the buildings and do bank jobs. yeah!

Well i got my wish eventually. so you might too when agent 3 rolls around.

    it's a rockstar north game... can't fail.

if you hype a game up it's more likely to fail (in your mind) but if it is a great game, all you need to do is re-adjust expectations and get used to the game that it actually is.

many people played a bit of IV then thought 's**te, it's not fun anymore' then got rid of it. they folk are idiots. i was surprised, and not exactly in a good way at IV at first, but after giving it a chance, it blow away any previous versions of the game.

i can trust rockstar to take this game in whatever direction they want to, it's guaranteed to be awesome.
