Sony has confirmed that NGP is still on track for release this year.
According to audio site Phile-web (via Andriasang), the company said on an earnings call today: "Regarding NGP, we're progressing with preparations towards a release at the end of the year."
There wasn't any fresh information on which territories will get the portable first, or whether it'll receive a global launch this year.

We expect to hear a lot more about NGP at E3 in a couple of weeks.

I'm going to guess Nov/Dec for Japan & US, March/April/May 2012 for Europe and by that time it will be end of the world so it won't matter.

Bang on time to meet Mario 3DS and Mario Kart and Kid Icarus and REvelations etc (which I'm guessing have been deliberately delayed for a winter release). Maybe there is sense at NCL after all. Well anyway I'm sure everybody knows what they're doing.

If it's anything like the PSP release it'll be Christmas 2011 for Jap/US and Christmas 2012 for us suckers in the EU. Still, if it's multi region then there's no reason not to import, my Jap PSP-1000 is still going strong.

Quite looking forward to seeing what it is going to be like. I am holding off getting a 3DS as the software thus far has been a bit meh.

So much has happened since this was revealed that I forgot all about it
Hoping there will be a reveal at E3 on the price that we could be expected to pay for it.
£249 or less would make me happy

I know that you can play old digital PSP games on this, but is it compatable with the hard copies?
Thanks

Does anyone know if it will be region free like the PSP was?

I honestly don't care when this is out as I'll need to see the support it gets and the games before I even think about buying one. If things go how it did with the PSP there could be just a handful of good games in it's lifetime. Having said that the quicker it's out the quicker the price will drop.

The NGP must already be in production then if they wanna release this year.
Oh and as Japan has massive interest in PSP still surely Sony won;t want to release in Japan first as not to cannibalise the PSP market?
Ideally they would want to release in US/Europe then Japan last. But hey that's just how I see the picture.
But i'll prolly just end up importing a US NGP (like I did and still have in possesion my 1st gen phat PSP USA )rather than waiting till sometime 2012 for europe release.
