Price to blame for slow 3DS sales - survey

Japanese consumers also satisfied with DS and worried about eye strain

Nintendo has acknowledged that 3DS didn't race out of the gates quite as it expected, and the handheld's pricing appears to be the main contributing factor in its home country of Japan, where weekly 3DS sales hit record lows last month.

According to a survey of 1,110 punters (39.5% male, 60.5% female) conducted by Goo Research (via Andriasang), satisfaction with older DS models and concerns over eye strain also rank highly on a list of reasons consumers have yet to take the plunge.

Here are the top 20 reasons given for not buying a 3DS:

01. Price is high/waiting for a price drop
02. Satisfied by DS/DSi
03. Worried about eye strain
04. Worried about getting sick from the screen
05. Few launch titles
06. Will buy once a game I want is released
07. Satisfied by cell phone and smartphone games
08. Satisfied by PSP
09. The battery is weak
10. It's heavy and I don't feel like carrying it with me
11. Can't play Game Boy Advance games
12. The colour I want isn't available
13. Can't play Game Boy games
14. I'll save my money for NGP, thank you very much
15. Waiting for a version with a larger screen
16. Because you can't move your DSi Points over
17. The buttons layout looks hard to use
18. No Famicom/NES in the Virtual Console
19. The zoom view for DS games is hard on the eyes
20. Waiting until my friend buys it
